Introduction
Welcome to another Adrenaling report. This time, I have the honor of presenting pictures in this report. Though, they aren’t really that good. I figure if I add some pics to my reports, I may get a higher rating. I actually got PaintShopPro and got the hang of things now.
My first two BR’s only showed myself playing against some random play. But today I present to you two fine players, Apex-X and Whear, from the World Cyber Games.
Whear: Whear, from my sources is an excellent random player who attended the WCG this year. For this round, he randommed Protoss.
Apex: A very good Zerg player, from what I can tell from the replays. He is part of the A-X clan, a very “gosu” clan, which has been around for quite some time.
The Map?
Lost Temple. Period.
Early Game and First Blood
Apex’s gruesome, purple hatchery spawned at the 12:00 position. He cloned his drones perfectly and sent his initial overlord scouting counter-clockwise. His build was overlord on 9, hatchery on 11, and pool on 10. He then started his first extractor.
Whear’s white Nexus warped into the 9:00 position. He, also, cloned his drones perfectly. He built his first pylon on 8, scouting with the probe. Afterwards, he built a gateway on 11, and on 12 he started his assimilator. Ending with a Cybernetics Core at 15 supply.
After a bit of peon harassing from both sides, Apex spawned his first 6 zerglings and Whear started a Zealot from his gateway.
Apex sends his first load of Zerglings to assault Whear’s main base. Unfortunately for him, Whear has two zealots cleverly guarding the ramp. Apex is in shambles as his first attack fails. With only three zerglings climbing the ramp at once, it is impossible to do any real damage, so he retreats.
Overlord Hunting
During, the initial attack, Apex had expanded to his natural, and Whear had started a stargate in his main.
As soon as his stargate finished, Whear began the build of his first Corsair. It warps in quickly, ready to go kill some overlords. He killed the overlord that Apex had left in his base and the corsair was sent on to the zerg main base. A Robotics Facility went up in Whear’s main.
Apex had not been idle, however. He spotted the corsair coming with his scouting overlord, which was now dead. He had started the build of his hydra den, which was now nearing completion.
However, as the Hydra Den neared its completion, the corsair was already on a rampage killing overlords. But back at Whear's home, a Rob Fac went up. His corsair had already killed its first victim and was now chasing its second when all of a sudden, a few hydras came and chased off the offender. Apex then upgraded his Hatchery into a Lair.
Cliffed!
When Whear's Robotics Facility warped in, he began a Robotics Support Bay, and loaded up two goons into the shuttle he had built. He ferried the cargo all the way across the map to the 12:00 natural cliff, where he dropped off his two goons. His first corsair, and another joining one, met up with the goons atop the cliff.
Apex had not been blinded however, because he probably saw the attack coming. He built two creep colonies below the cliff. Whear's two goons got into position to attack the morphing colonies. Goons fired at the morphing buildings, while hydras below, frantically tried to stop them.
Now I suppose you are wondering why he sent his two initial corsairs atop the cliff as well. But Whear, being very clever, always knows how to use his units well. He sent the goons there to divert the main force, while corsairs got free kills off ovies. Confused? So am I.
The sunkens managed to morph in in time to destroy one goon and severely damage the other. But, unfortunately, the corsairs managed to kill 2-4 ovies while the goons were diverting the hydras/sunkens.
Update
Whear had built a forge and was at 1 ground attack and Apex had built an evo chamber with 1 ground carapace.
Final Showdown
Whear had thrown down another gateway, and was producing a lot of goons out of both gateways, while getting reavers from his robotics facility. Apex had his spire completed and was morphing a muta/lings out of all his hatcheries.
Whear decided to go on the offensive again, with 12~ goons, a few zealots, and 2 reavers packed into a shuttle. He began his travel up north. His forces stopped at Apex's choke, waiting for further orders. Suddenly, 12 zerglings srambled out of the undergrowth and ambushed the Protoss Forces. Unfortunately, the aid of reavers proved fatal for Apex, as his zerglings were slaughtered quickly. Whear advanced into the zerg natural, when a shitload of zerglings and some mutas rushed in to stop the Protoss army.
Lucky to be alive with the first wave of Protoss units, Apex quickly replaced the Hatchery at his natural, since it had been destroyed in the first raid. He then threw another hatchery down at his main and began rebuilding his lost army.
Whear, during his last attack, had been building goons from his gateways, and reavers from his rob fac. He had also completed an Observatory and had built an observer. He then expanded to his natural and mineral only. Afterwards, he regrouped his army at his mineral only.
Apex, being smart sent down a handful of zerglings below Whear's mineral only, and left a zergling as a scout in Whear's route to his base. Whear then decided to attack. He sent his goons/zealots/shuttle with reaver in it to Apex's choke, this time watching for any ambushes. Apex, seeing the attack, quickly rushes into Whear's now defenseless mineral only.
Whear, finally noticing that his "base is under attack", brought his army back to his base to kill the zerglings. Unfortunately, the zerglings had already destroyed the warping nexus. The zerglings, however, were slaughtered in groups by scarabs from reavers.
Now Whear sends his army to attack Apex. The army is grouped at Apex's choke. Suddenly, without warning, zerglings came pouring down the 12:00 ramp, and mutas flew in for some kills. The two reavers were unloaded, and the Final Showdown began. Reavers fired a scarab at a time, killing a shitload of zerglings, and goons protected reavers from mutas and zerglings. Apex retreated his force. Whear's zealots destroyed Apex's natural and goons/zealots/reavers rushed up Apex's ramp. Apex was frantically trying to build mass zerglings, because mutas would take too long, when his base was hit full force.
Knowing all was lost, Apex conceded the game.
