I glanced out the window at the sun as it rose over the horizon. A new day at the Lost Temple Gamei. Not that I was looking forward to it. I'd been on the temple so long I was sick of it. My assistant entered the room.
"Get me a coffee, this is going to be a long day."
"Er.. We've got an incoming transmission from a Protoss executor." I grinned. That wasn't anything new.
"Name?"
"sofyddl."
I sighed, and nodded. The big screen TV suddenly went black, and text scrolled across the screen.
sofyddl: hihihi

I puzzled over this message for a moment,
"This seems to be a crude declaration of war of some sort."
My assistant nodded,
"Our tactical officers tell us that the Protoss are somewhere within a ten mile radius of our base. Shall we send a reply?"
"No, I want to see what they're up to before I decided to do anything. SCV-Seven, build a supply depot at our ramp, then scout three. Nine, I want a barracks by the depot, now. Eleven, build a refinery. If this turns into a war, we want tanks." I glanced at the map display of my surroundings. A small circle of light revealed my 6:00 base. Everywhere else was black shroud.
"Uh, sir, ah think ah found 'im. 'e doesn't look too smart, got 'imself a pylon an' a forge, an' the cannon's almost done."
I glanced at the base, raising an eyebrow. An interesting, but rather stupid strategem. Fifteen, get me a factory. seven, I want you to stick close to the base, but make sure they don't see you."
"Okee dokey sir."
"General, an enemy probe has just climbed our ramp, and he's constructing a pylon at the top between our barracks and supply depot."
I grinned,
"If he had a gateway, I'd say he was zealot rushing. I want three marines on the pylon. You, the SCV at the ramp, I want you to follow that probe."
"Sir, this guy's a nutso. He's built a pylon just east of the bottom of our ramp. If ah didnt knew better, ah'd say 'e was cannon rushin'."
I sighed. Newbies.
"Alright, clean up. Get me a tank with seige mode. Seven, scout the base. Be careful, there's cannons around. I want a worker on a new Command Center in my natural." I intended to play this game 100% until the end. I'd seen to many generals die because they had gotten cocky. Being a girl, I didn't have the problem.
"Ah see 'em, sir. Three o' them, an' no sign of a barracks."
I glanced at my assistant, who shrugged. I scratched my head,
"Um, okay. Get me an academy, and send a tank and three marines to his base. Lets dig him out, shall we?"
I watched as my tank seiged in front of the cannons, and started a comsat. This looked to be a short battle.
"Build a factory behind the tank for faster reinforcements." I said, though I probably wouldn't need the factory. A scan lit up the darkness, revealing a gateway, a citadel adun, and in the very far corner of the base.. A templar archives."
"Shit. Get me an engineering bay at home, now!"
"Sir! We're under attack!" Suddenly, the transmission from the tank fuzzed out, and I ordered a retreat, lifting off the newly completed factory and sending it south.
"Damn. Okay, start a bunker by the supply depot, and two turrets. Comsat, how much time until we recharge?"
"We need another thirty seconds, ma'am."
"Thirty seconds? Shit. They're here. All marines, into the bunker. Poe, unseige."
I knew Poe personally. We trained together, fought together, only now I was the one leading him. Poe prefered the rush of battle, and I heard her cackle as the dark templar was taken out by her dual barrels.
"Okay, casualties?"
"Hm.. One tank and a marine at the 3:00 base, and the SCV building one of our turrets got wasted, too."
"In exchange for a dt and three cannons.. that's a fair enough trade. Alright, I want another factory, and a starport and science facility. Bill, get me another command center at our mineral only."
My eye caught an orange dot on the radar, and I clicked to the ledge above the 3:00 natural, where my factory had constructed a machine shop.
I lifted off the factory quickly before reverting my attention back to the base.
"We're growing high on minerals. Get me another factory and starport. Bill, take your team and build turrets underneath our ramp to protect from a dt drop."
I ordered the construction of a science vessel before looking at my army. Three tanks, four marines and a firebat. This small force was soon sent towards the 3:00 natural, and I ordered a vulture to patrol the 9:00 main and natural. I scanned the protoss natural. A few cannons around his nexus, as well as a few zealot recruitees. The dark templar didn't bother me anymore, I had two comsats waiting.
"Alright Poe, seige up by the ramp and lure the zealots in. Everyone else, cover poe."
The protoss warriors took the bait, hook, line and sinker. I watched with grim satisfaction as the zealots were packed up and sent back in pieces to Aiur. The DT took a firebat and a marine with him, but the costs equalled out. Seiging up another tank on the other side of the choke, I called for reinforcements from my base- Two SCVs and two tanks, fresh off the assembly line.
"He seems to be going ground-ground, with cannon support at his base. That leaves me with only one thing to make: Battlecruisers." I grinned, and rubbed my hands together. War was fun.
"Sah, there's a new protoss output at the 12:00 main. No D yet, and I've taken out the probe."
"Alright. We'll send an attack force ther-"
"auugh!"
"Crap!"
A new wave of zealots and dragoons rushed into my containing force, and I quickly unseiged my tanks, dmatrixing a few as they fought. The rest of the squadron made a hasty retreat, but only Poe and a few renegade SCVs managed to flee safely. I ordered the factory that had been floating above the 3:00 ramp (another landing foiled by a DT) to land by the supply depots at my mineral only. I had built my base like a fortress. If they attacked, they'd have to go the long way to get at my tanks.
"Okay, I want every ready tank to head to the 12:00 expansion. We don't want them getting established."
Five tanks rolled out onto the grassy floor of the temple, their eyes open for trouble. They reached the new nexus with no difficulties, but a cannon and a DT held things back. A scan and a few arclite cannon shells later, the base was razed, except for the assimilator. The tanks unseiged and began razed the gas structure to the ground, but five dark templar dropped out of two shuttles and played cat and mouse with them. That is, the cat eats the mouse. I checked on the tower line around my base. It had extended over the whole eastern border of the plateau already.
"Uh, sir, we've got trouble."
Shit. A dt drop. My tower network hadn't extended to the far left side of my plateau, leaving me wide open for a sneak attack. Taking three tanks and the two battlecruisers in my main, I went to chase the little buggers out. They managed to take out my academy, refinery and supply depot, and a tank before all of the shadows were banished to hell. If I had not danced my tanks away, I would have lost a lot more.
"Okay, build three towards on the western plateau. We'll make sure he never does that again." I watched as my new command center lowered itself to the ground, "Our 9:00 expansion is online. I want every SCV by our HQ at that base, now."
The SCVs groaned and began hovering their way over to the new base. SCVs are such slackers it's not funny. The only reason they work so hard is because of the health premiums they get.
"Goliath online."
"Five gols and four tanks, go make a contain at his choke. You two SCVs, what're your names?"
"Uh.. Jim an' Ray, sir."
"I want you two to set up a turret and supply depot wall. If we can stop their zealots from reaching our tanks, we can take out the dragoons with no problem. Admiral, how many battlecruisers do we have?"
"Four, sir"
"I want them there as backup. Lets move it!"
The mechanical gears of the seige tanks whirred as my tanks entered seige mode, and one of their cannons attracted the attention of the twelve or so assorted protoss units by the Protoss natural. With the BC's help, I decimated their forces, and continued a slow push on the protoss base.
Scanner sweeps lit up my map as I scouted the twelve o'clock expansion points, and the two islands. It revealed a new expansion at the northern island. Rather than send reinforcements to my contain, I grabbed four goliaths and two tanks and shuttled them to the island. The assault on the expansion was a success; defense had not been set up yet in the new base. Unfortunately, my contain paid the price. I watched as zealot blades ripped through my tanks, and dragoons followed. The laser batteries of my BCs took down quite a few of the zealous warriors, but my force was defeated. Three battlecruisers and a SV retreated southwards; the SV never made it.
"Shit. I want all five factories making tanks, and a new supply depot to block zealot movement." I hoped the protoss executor wouldn't attack.
I was wrong.
~ Eight zealots and twelve dragoons marched into my base, the first few zealots becoming blue creampuffs as goliath and tank fire ate into their life. All of the dragoons marched up towards my battlecruisers and began focus-firing on the ships. I was surprised at this move; I still had enough tanks to obliterate his dragoons.
Only one battlecruiser survived, in bad condition. Its vertical stabilizers were barely working when I ordered the retreat, and seiged the tanks around Poe, who was seiged behind a supply depot and bunker. His attack force retreated, giving me a bit of leeway. I seiged a tank on the cliff overlooking my mineral only and started the production of vultures.
"Fine. You want to play it that way? You take my expansion, I'll take yours." A new scan had revealed another young protoss expansion on the southern island, and my attack force (now with only 3 goliaths) was loaded up and transported to the new nexus.
"sir! We're under attac-ffzzhhh"
Crap. The executor had taken his forces to my 9:00 main. I lifted off the command center and ordered all the working SCVs to retreat back to mine at my natural. The protoss army followed my workers, and I watched in satisfaction as the zealots and dragoons crumpled under the heavy fire of my tanks.
"Looks like this guy's dead. Lets clean this up. I want the drop force at the southern island to turbo the Protoss natural expansion. Comsat, look out for any DTs."
I smiled, and leaned back in my chair as the Protoss natural was razed by my tanks.
"Uh, we've got another transmission coming in."
I grinned. Did he give up?
"Alright, lets see it."

I blinked. And looked at my assistant, who shrugged.
"Must be a Protoss thing." She said, and I nodded, sending my response.

I grinned as I watched the protoss buildings shut off, the remaining protoss forces most likely preparing a gate back to Aiur.
"Good work guys. Now where's my coffee?" |
