Introduction

Sup, and welcome to another battlreport by me. I was hanging around clan ~nohunters and decided to join the first private game that appeared. When I entered the game I discovered it to be a 2v2 on Rivalry, the "Not Lost Temple, But Better For You" map. It being one of Bob's observation maps I plopped myself down into the bottom force, got a quick snack, and waited for the timer to hit 0.

Characters

    .HeeroYuy. at Bottom-Left

    iEsc at Bottom-Right

    FalconPlays-BW at Top-Left

Actual Report

The team set up was TvB, Heero and iEsc vs Fervor and Falcon. Heero and iEsc both warped in Protoss at the bottom bases while their opponents recieved Terran and Zerg, respectfully.

gosuThe game starts off pretty boring. Not much in the department of rushing goes on, all players do standard builds, Heero scouts and finds Falcon, Fervor scouts and find iEsc so everyone knows where they are. The only thing I felt like taking ss of were of Fervor's gosu wallin, and Falcon's poorly choosen place for a spawning pool. But it's all good, cause Falcon is a real man, and real men don't need the quickest and shortest path for vespene consumption.

he's probably going lings anyways...

Heero gets a core after his first gate, while his partner iEsc goes double gate then citadel. Falcon goes pool, gas, hatc then upgrade to lair and Fervor goes with a double fact build. Heero's plan is to go for quick tech while iEsc holds off the others with zealots, leaving him with ample time to tech up toward reavers and a drop. Sadly though, they forget to re-scout Falcon to see what he's up to, because we all know that a reaver just won't be able to out micro against Falcon's soon to be mutalisk.reavers > muta, er wait....

However, Heero plays it safe and sends his first observer across the map toward Fervors base, scuting out a good drop location for his brand spanking new reaver and goon. Right as the obs gets there they are warned of a terran dropship heading southward toward iEsc base. Fervor has just finished loading up the dropship with 4 vults, spidermine capable, and is ready for some action. Heero also gets ready to drop on Fervor and sends his shuttle full o mayhem toward Fervor. Falcon's spire has just finished and he begins to produce mutas for his own attack.

Fervor initiates his drop on iEsc by flying straight over his new archives and forge, settle directly over iEsc's nexus. There is absolutely no form of resistance, as iEsc has left his 5 goons and 3 lots outside at the bottom of his ramp. The 4 vultures begin to cause a bit of a havoc within iEsc's probe line, then begin to lay mines. iEsc responds to the threat and pulls some of his forces back in to kill off the vultures. The image you're about to see depicts the most destructive mine of all time. Watch as a zealot gets to close to a mine.

spider-mine, spider-mine...

A loud and clamourous cheer goes up from all the players and obs as iEsc loses all but 3 probes, 2 in his minerals and 1on gas, in one of the greatest vult drops I've seen. Simultaneuosly, Heero commences his drop on Fervor, who seems caught with his pants down and begins losing SCV to reaver fire. Heero loses his goon who wonders to close to Fervors 2 sieged tanks, but manages to micro his reaver in his shuttle to kill off about 6 more SCV who tried to run away. Fervor then places his tanks at multiple position within his base and Heero flees with his reaver westward toward Falcon's base.

Update: Both iEsc and Fervor are now screwed resource wise, iEsc more so then Fervor. Falcon has mutas. Heero is heading toward Falcon's base for reaver drop. Falcon has started an exop at 12, and iEsc's expo at his natural finishes warping in. Heero also has an expo at his natural.

not quite the flying V, but a good damn trywhy aren't probes equiped with photon lasers? When Fervor was running his SCV around Heero's scarabs, Falcon sent his 6 mutas straight to Heero's main and began to harass his peon line. Heero, having to do some double micro now, would have none of this and scared off the mutas with some dragoons. Just that time Falcon sends his mutas back home to fend off the menance of a reaver in his own peon line. Damn, lotta fun with resource disruption, eh?

Heero's reaver manages to get off 1 scarab before it and the shuttle are both destroyed by the mutas. Number of zerg casualties: 2 lings, 1 drone =[.

my god typing is tiringThings quiet down for a second, iEsc and Fervor manage to work up a new economy, Falcon makes more lings and mutas, and Heero bulks up on dragoons. Heero decides to go for a more in-your-face approach and orders iEsc to send all he can muster to attack the zerg main. Heero sends an assualt force of goons, aided by iEsc's lots and hand full of goons toward Falcons main.

just like momma used to makeAs Heero's goons get outside Falcon's natural they begin firing upon some mutas, who then retreat into the base. Believing Falcon main to be more heavily guarded then his expo Heero tells iEsc to attack 12 instead. As soon as the goons enter the unprotected expo Falcon calls for assistance and then sends his mutas to the fray. The mutas battle the goons for a bit, as Fervor loads up a shuttle with 2 tanks. Fervor lands his shuttle in Falcon's expo and begins firing on lots and goons, microing underneath the cover of mutas. Before the main goon force gets within range of the tanks Falcon attacks from his main with newly spawned lings, flanking the goons between tanks, mutas and claws. Goon soup stains the ground.

feel the dt, sense the dt, BE the dtAfter it is ascertained that no more forces are attacking, Fervor leads a counter-strike toward iEsc base, with 6 tanks, vults and a few rines, with help from about 9 lings and mutas. As the tanks roll up to iEsc's natural they scoot themsleves into the corner and take position for a siege. Fervor forgets about the rines and vults, who blindly charge into some cannons. The tanks begin to lay arclite fire onto iEsc's pylons and gateways in his natural, killing goons and lots that try to oppose them. But Fervor has forgotten a key factor when attacking a toss base - detection. Part of iEsc army composes of 4 dt. iEsc rushes his dts down his ramp and Fervor's remaining 4 tanks stand no chance at all and his attack is beaten off.

Meanwhile, Falcon's lings get mauled by iEsc's lots, but his mutas take an alternate path and zigzag there way into iEsc main just as his goons head down to fend off the tanks. The mutas take care of the last few goons in his main then procede to wipe out iEsc's brand new economy. iEsc attempts to run his probes away but Falcon just seems intent on following them and knocking them off one at a time.

defense is the best offenseHeero, though, takes the oppurtunity and sends his forces toward Falcon 's base, hoping he'll have little resistance. And to his luck he finds very little. Heero is able to march 10 goons up Falcon's ramp, pop a few lords, then take pot shoots at some lings. Falcon has about 15 lings guarding his base and sends them to attack the goons, but Heero uses some excellent micro and makes Falcon work for his kills. It becomes apparent Falcon may need more then just lings to fend off the invaders, and much to iEsc's relief, pulls back his mutas from iEsc's base to defend his own base. Fervor also aids his ally by dropping 2 vults, followed by some tanks and siegeing them. As more lings are constantly produced, and with the arrival of the mutas, Falcon is able to overcome the goon menace, with the loss of a few buildings and units.

Side Note: During the attack iEsc sent a shuttle with 3 dt toward Fervor to drop. The shuttle was sadly shot down before any of the dt could make it. Weither it be because of godly turret placement or the fact that iEsc drove the shuttle directly into 2 turrets the dts and shuttle shall be missed.

Moments later Heero is ready again with a new force of goons and marches his way defiantly to Falcon's base. But this time his goons have a bit of trouble going up the ramp, as Fervor has strategically parked tanks along the edge of Falcon's main, and lings guard the ramp. The goons can not get up the ramp without figthing lings and taking tank fire so Heero pulls them away, out of rang from the tanks. Heero then orders his goons to attack the 12 expo once more so he can hopefully destroy the expo and stop Falcon from getting more resources.

The goon forces meet up with 1 sunken resistance and quickly crush the building, as they begin to decimate the hatches and drones in the expo. Falcon does not take kindly to this and sends his now 40 ling army to his expo to defend it. Fervor also lends a hand in send 5 vults and some tanks. Heero's goons are soon flanked by ling and terran forces on every side and his little guerrilla warfare tactic is quelled.

just too much

At this time everyone decides to take a break from fighting and working on their economies.fortification...TO THE MAX Falcon increases his drone production at his expo and ups his muta production again, iEsc economy is back to an extent, Heero has expanded to 6, and Fervor has decided to fority his own natural. Up till now fervor has been the only player without some secondary source of income, so it's about time he expoed. iEsc's own army is getting back up there, though he still seems to be hurting from Falcon's muta attack on his main. He seems to be doing pretty good for himself considering his economy was runover twice. Falcon has also started a gas expo by the middle vespene geyser.

After about 4 more minutes Falcon sends a group of mutas to the middle of the map and then into the newly acquired expo of Heero. Falcon begins to attack the probes there but Heero and iEsc both respond with goons from either side and scare away the pest.

Conclusion

Falcon sends all his lings to the 9 expo and sends all his mutas to a spot just above Heero's 6 expo. Heero declares that he and iEsc must kill Falcon, no matter the cost, so he orders him to send every unit he can spare to the middle, then onto a quest to take down Falcon. During the game Heero displayed a lot of animosity toward Falcon, and I'm not sure why, but hell, it's rivalry and only made the game better :).

Heero's lots and goons head toward the middle northeast while iEsc sends his guys northwest. As they meet their armies in the middle they come encountered with Falcon's new gas expo. The expo is destroyed and lost, but Falcon and Fervor know gain the knowledge that they have left their bases empty.

Onward lads, treasure awaits us!

As the expo is being razed Falcon sends all his forces, mutas and lings, straight into Heero's base. Heero, having now no more defense tells iEsc to forget about his base, just to press the attack on Falcon. Both forces make their way toward Falcon's main, iEsc leading the charge, but at the last second Heero splits his forces away from iEsc units at Falcon's ramp and heads toward Falcon's expo. This proves to be a fatal mistake, as now Heero and iEsc strength in brute force and numbers strategy is sheared in half. iEsc's forces go head to head with tanks, lings, and mutas at Falcon's main, and are flattened. Heero begins to assault the expo, assisted by the last remanants of iEsc's army and they both start destroying the hatcs.

Falcon, running extremely low on resources, opts to save his drones and runs them all into Fervors natural. Heero's zealots, 8-9 of them, follow the drones, but soon meet up with more of Fervor's forces. The drones delay the movement of the zealots while tanks and goliaths blast away, wiping out nearly half Heero's army. the alt text gets worse and worse...After the expo is gone Heero and iEsc send their armies back to Falcon's main. The armies make it up the ramp but are greeted with more siege tank fire, mutas, and even more lings. As the lings battle the goons and lots they are able to keep them away from the tanks, giving the tanks free shots. Gradually the goons and lots beat away most of the lings and even mabage to kill the tanks, but the combined forces at the ramp are just too much for iEsc and Heero to handle.

While all that is transpiring Falcon's muta/ling army in the south is just now finishing up razing Heero's main and expo. Fervor tries to expand at 3, but iEsc sends a few goons and destroys the CC there, allowing Heero a place to expand now. But Fervor has once again started tank pushing into iEsc's main, making it hard for him to help defend Heero's new expo(still warping) at 3. Within the next minute Heero's expo is found, thus rendering him out of the game. iEsc too can not hold on against the combined forces of Falcon and Fervor so they do the only proper thing to do.

GG

:O

Final Thoughts

The game was very well played by both teams. Some major upsets were the drops, especially for iEsc who lost his economy twice. I'm a little upset though cause this game played out almost like a vanilla game. A corsair here and there or maybe lurkers...I think the major issue here was teamwork. Multiple teams in the game Heero went off to attack by himself or just did not coordinate well with his partner, allowing his forces to be beaten 2 to 1. If Heero had continued up the ramp on his final assualt the outcome woulda be much different.

Ok, that's it for now. Hope you enjoy this new style I'm trying out. Have a nice day all.
