THE MAP

This game was played on the map New No Way Out. An awesome map in my opinion. The map is 128x128 and is set up like this: 4 starting posistions located in the corners. Each main base is seperated from the rest of the map by a ring of high ground, just wide enough to drop on. In case your having trouble picturing this, the only way out is via dropship/shuttle/overlord, you know. Each main base has a natural composed of high ground inside their ring. There are seven other expansions located around the map with various cliffs. OK, fine, your right. I do suck at explaining this, just have a look to the left, sheesh.

EARLY GAME

Clock warped in a Teal Nexus in the upper left location. He cloned perfectly, sending each Probe to its own patch. LoveSonata landed a spiffy, blue command center in the lower right spot. His SCVs each went their own way and thus, the game was underway.

Clock continued to make Probes until he had 8 at which point he warped in a pylon and continued making Probes. At 10/17 he constructed an assimilator followed soon after by a gateway. At 17/17 he started his cybernetics core. After making a pylon and a zealot or two, he started construction on his robotics facility, obviously teching to shuttles.

LoveSonata started his supply depot at the 8/10 mark. Next came gas at 11 and a barracks at 12. Upon completion, he floated his barracks the bottom left corner spot, a slow but steady scout. At 16 he built another depot and a factory. At 21 control he started a starport and a machine shop. When his machine shop was done he started a tank. A dropship was queued.

Clock started dragoon and observer production. He created a shuttle and soon after a citadel of adun. With his new shuttle he picked up a probe and a dragoon and dropped them at his nearby natural expansion. He started a nexus and a pylon, but to his surprise, LoveSonata's scouting barracks had made it's way up the left side of the map and discovered his base. Not far behind the barracks was a dropship filled with 2 siege tanks. LoveSonata dropped the tanks on his opponent's cliff and sieged those puppies. After moving his dropship up, the tanks started to pound away at the defensless nexus. Thinking quick, Clock filled a couple shuttles with dragoons and dropped them near the tanks. The tanks were destroyed and his expansion safe...for now. During this time, Clock tried a dragoon drop. The shuttle was mostly for scouting, but minimal damage was done thanks to siege tanks at LoveSonata's main.

Another dropship with 2 tanks was sent to Clock's cliff. This time the dropship was accompanied by 3 wraiths, cloaked and all. The tanks sieged and once again started poundin' away at the defenseless nexus. During this time Clock decided to expand to the top-mid expansion (1), and the expansion to the right (2). Unfortunately for Clock, a stray wraith happened to spot his top expansion and make short work of killing it.

During this tank harassment period, LoveSonata had expanded to his natural expansion and started mining. He also had a command center enroute to the expansion above his base. He had thrown down another starport and was pumping wraiths. Clock, having lost 400 when his first attemp at expansion was stopped by wraiths, was somewhat behind. He had just researched storm and did a darktemplar/high templar drop easily killing the pesky tanks that were still parked on his cliff.

Clock started mining from his newest expansion on the right side of the map, only a short distance away from LoveSonata's newest expansion. Clock was pumping dragoons with the attack +1 upgrade finished, trying not to lose the game to wraiths.

LoveSonata had other things on his mind. He had about 8 wraiths and a dropship full of tanks. After scanning Clock's base about 10 times, he went in. He dropped the tanks on the cliff, same spot as last time. The wraiths cloaked and waited. Scanning once more, he killed a sneaky observer positioned over his drop. Clock loaded up 2 shuttles, one with a high templar and a dragoon, the other with 2 dragoons. Storming nicely, he brought all the wraiths down to about 8 hit points, making them virtually worthless. LoveSonata retreated his wraiths back to his main to repair them. Then the goons were dropped, killing the tanks.

I think it is now time for a minimap update...

As you can see, Clock expanded two more times, right outside his main. LoveSonata had also expanded once more, also near his main but towards the center. The blue blob you see in Clock's base is LoveSonata's lone Barracks. Clock has 5 expansions currently running, while LoveSonata only has 4.

MID GAME

LoveSonata was at it again, he sent 8 wraiths to one of Clock's newest expansions, however it didn't go so well. Clock unloaded 3 shuttles full of dragoons and sent 3 observers. LoveSonata scanned and tried his best to kill the observers but with no such luck. He was forced to retreat after doing no damage whatsoever. The expansion was safe and LoveSonata was out 3 wraiths. Better luck next time...

LoveSonata was on the offensive again, this time a tank drop. He filled 2 dropships with tanks and dropped them on Clock's cliff (the same one he just tried to get with the wraiths). The tanks sieged and started pounding away on the only cannon defending the expansion. Clock loaded up his shuttles with the same dragoons used to defend against the wraith attack. Fortunately for LoveSonata, Clock's dropped sucked horribly. He dropped the dragoons one at a time while they were well within tank range. LoveSonata lost one tank in the "battle".

However this time, Clock got smart and filled 4 shuttles with dragoons and dropped them all at the same time. This proved much more effective at killing the 3 tanks.

Clock knew he needed to stop the mighty terran's economy. He sent observers around looking for a vulnerable spot to drop. A nearly defenseless expansion was found. A wonderful feeling came over Clock as he knew this was his chance to catch up. This was his time to shine, his time to take the initiative, his time to show off his pretty, protoss warriors, his time to...get dropped. His feeling quickly faded away as he saw 4 siege tanks parked on his cliff...
Hold on a minute here. At this point in the game Clock made a very important decision that would make or break the game for him. He saw a perfect opportunity to cripple LoveSonata's economy, yet his own economic future was at stake. To find out what he does, read on...
Clock decided that he needed to stop the cash flow of LoveSonata. He ran his probes away from his dying expansion and started his dropship in the direction of LoveSonata's defenseless expansion He unloaded his shuttles and did as much damage as he could to the expansion, in fact, he killed it. As soon as it died he loaded up the shuttles again and went to save his own expansion, whose nexus only had 41 hit points left. He dropped and was able to fend off the tanks. Luckily for Clock, LoveSonata did not see his hidden carrier tech. Clock now had 3 running expansions while LoveSonata only had 2.

THE ENDING

LoveSonata realized that he needed to expand, and planned accordingly. He send 3 dropships full of probes to the bottom left main. He had just started construction on a command center there when the unthinkable happened. Clock dropped on one of his two working expansions. Despite turets and bunkers, Clock got he drop off and it proved to be devastating.

Back at his main, LoveSonata started making wraiths, dropships, tanks and slowly teching to battlecruisers. His expansion at the bottom left was up and running and he had even expanded to the bottom left natural.

Clock was busy expanding. In fact, he expanded twice more, once to the center of the map and once to the bottom. A little risky to expand right between 2 of his opponents bases but I guess he felt he had the upper hand. He had 3 carriers and was making 3 more.

Out of the corner of his eye, Clock saw a blue blur moving up the right side of the map. Unfortunately for Clock, it was 7 dropships filled with tanks and 5 wraiths. The tanks were dropped on the cliff and saw the carriers. The wraiths were instantly cloaked and the carriers were forced to retreat.

At the same time, Clock countered LoveSonata's attack by dropping 6 shuttles full of dragoons and zealots on LoveSonata's bottom left expansion. He sent them in started taking free hits at the expansion. LoveSonata decided that killing 2 carriers and a fleet beacon was enough for now, he loaded up his 14 tanks and headed for his dying expansion. Alas, he was too late, when the dropships finally arrived he found his expansion in ruins. Buildings burning and SCVs being ruthlessly slain, all for the pleasure of a lone high templar...or something. Anyway, he sent his dropships up the left side of the map and unloaded them at Clock's expansion.

He killed the expansion before clock was able to load up his shuttles and try to stop him. As soon as the shuttles arrived the tanks were loaded up and a friendly game of tag dropship-shuttle-tag ensued....but not for long as a group of 5 wraiths attacked and killed all of Clock's shuttles. All Clock's army consisted of now was about 8 zealots, 6 dragoons and 3 carriers hiding up in the corner. The dropships headed for the stargates and easily destroyed them.

LoveSonata had 4 battlecruisers at his main (That Clock didn't know about), 6 wraiths and about 8 tanks left from his dropping party. He also found it appropriate to expand back to the bottom left main and the bottom left natural.

Clock now only had 2 running expansions and several idle nexus' (nexi? er...i dunno). At his main he was making zealots and shuttles, most likely planning another expansion hunt.

LoveSonata dropped tanks on Clock's cliff and forced him to maynard his probes to only 1 expansion. However, he evened the score once more by dropping zealots on LoveSonata's bottom left expansion, leaving LoveSonata with NO income. Seeing all of Clock's men at his expansion, LoveSonata dropped his last group of 6 tanks on Clock's only expansion cliff. After killing almost all of the probes, he packed back up and shipped out.

Here is a little update. Both players had no real mineral-mining expansions. Clock had a few probes mining here and there, but nothing substancial. He was still trying to produce carriers with his limited income, but was having trouble keeping his stargates "powered". His entire army consisted of the following: around 24 zealots, 12 dragoons and 3 carriers. 12 of his zealots were currently on the way to take out one of LoveSonata's somewhat idle command centers.

LoveSonata decided this was as good of a time as any to attack. He had been pumping hidden battlecruisers for the last 10 minutes and had a grand total of 7. He sent, them along with a science vessel, towards Clock's main.

When Clock saw the battlecruiser rape, he did all he could do. He countered. He dropped around 8 zeals and 4 dragoons right smack in the middle of LoveSonata's main and started pumping corsairs.

In a last effort attack, Clock sent in 3 carriers, 4 scouts and about 6 dragoons in. He brought the battle cruiser count down to two, but that just wasnt enough. 2 more battle cruisers popped out of their stargates and joined the other two. Clock sent all his zealots in attacking anything and everything. Finally, his cash count was at 23 and he was forced to leave the game.

FINAL THOUGHTS

This was a really fun game to watch. I'm glad Clock and Love allowed me to obs and BR the game and I hope I was able to make an enjoyable report out of it. If anyone is interested in the replay, it can be downloaded here Click me.

In case anyone was wondering (or cares) all the HTML was done in wordpad and the graphics were all done in Paint Shop Pro 7.0 and MS Paint (cuz it will always own). I'd like to shout out to some of my favorite reporters on this site, ZerG~LinG, Mr.Medio, mick, CHJ (make him rater plz ;)) and of course Mark4 (front page hookup? :P). I guess that's it. see ya...
