Old Bessie was a ragged looking weapon of war, but being pirates and all, proper equipment was hard to find. Stil glanced around the large spacious hanger in the belly of the attack carrier. Old Bessie was parked off on the right side, along with the other 5 tanks. There was a sixth, but it sustained damage in its turret rotor and was stripped down for parts to maintain the other tanks. Over to Stil's right was the Vultures, gleaming from the harsh flourescents on the ceiling above. Those Vulture drivers sure do love their bikes, reflected Stil. Even though the wax said otherwise, the vultures were in poor repair. One of the Vultures was missing half its front shielding, another had a salvaged motor built from several different things, half of them Stil couldn't identify. And not one of them had a full compliment of spider mines. In stark contrast, the goliath's looked brand new, which was because they were brand new. They were 'aquired' from the last raid. The old goliaths were immediately stripped, considering there was only 4 people that could pilot on of those garbage cans anyway. Further on the carriers compliment of 8 dropships were ready to ferry them to any planet that was deemed 'profitable'. 'Yo boss!' came a shout from within the tank, snapping Stil from his observation. 'Yeah, what do ya want?' replied Stil, in his gruff voice. 'The right leg is completely locked up. It'll take days to get it to work.' A head poked up through the hatch. Zan had a sly face, and when he smiled, his missing teeth seemed to accent his rat like qualitys. He was one of Stil's old war buddy's from Chimera VI, and he came with Stil when Chimera VI was taken over by the zerg and Stil evacuated from the planet. Currently he served as the tank's engineer, and comm officer out in the field. 'Yeah, do it. Not like we'll be doing anything in the mean while.' The higher-ups seemed to be going exclusively after convoys, leaving the ground crew with nothing to do but get drunk. 'Alright, but I'm gonna have to scrounge around for parts to fix it.' 'Try to find that rat Bam while your at it.' Bam was another of Stil's war buddies. Well, not really. He hitched a ride when Stil stole a dropship to get off Chimera VI. Stil didn't like him very much, but he was the only guy he knew who could drive the tank. Stil could, but Stil had to shoot the big gun, and there was less people who could be the gunner of a tank than the pilot of one. 'Got it.' Zan walked over to the other vehicles, looking for spare parts. Stil decided it was a good time to take a nap. Stil was rudely awaken by sirens and a big red light flashing overhead on the roof. He propped himself up and looked around. Pilots and engineers were running around. He spotted Zan. 'Zan, what the h*ll is going on?!?' Stil had to shout over the sirens and klaxons. 'We got ambushed by some terran bastards.' 'Oh, okay then. Nothing we can do right now. I'm going inside to try to get some sleep. Wake me up if we're about to die or have to do something.'
part 3 Arg0naut lay there in his room, reflecting on all that had gone wrong. The sounds of Octavian and Heidi were heard above him, as he lay in his decrepid bed on the lower hull of the starship. Was it jealosy he felt? He was unsure, as a feeling that he could not identify flooded through him. He was here for all that he had done wrong. The pains and horrors all rested on his, this fallen generals battle scarred shoulders. He knew that this was why he rested in his filthy chambers, now below the command of the newly reassigned Octavian. His failure as a general has been reflected in his countless losses as commander of a young terran army. So many have died. If he could feel anything right now, it was guilt. There was dissention in the ranks, noone would follow him now. To regain respect, he'd have to rise from the rank of marine all over again. He'd have to prove himself back on the battlefield, standing before the bodies of countless protoss and zerg units. That was something he no longer felt capable of. "The godd*amn ed uselessness of it all!," came the cry from this broken man, alone in his room, while the incessant sqeaking from above him worked its way into his subconscious. d*amn was it irritating! He saw himself then, as he had not seen himself in a long time. He looked down upon his own dirty, unshaven face. He saw the anger in his own eyes. Arg0nauts resolve changed then. A last act of redemtion was needed. He owed them, all those who had once depended on him, he owed them this final act. He couldn't do it alone though, and their was only a precious few that he could now turn to. Stil's eyes opened from the sound of anothers voice. Reaching for his dagger, which he carried with him ever since his days on the street, was in his grasp before the grogginess was even shaken off. "Get the h*ll away from my bitches!," came the gruff voice. Making the transition back to reality and shaking off the alchohol he then said after a short pause, "Arg0naut? What is it?" "I need your help, yours and a few others. I want you to go get Zan and Dark Nape". Although Arg0naut was even lesser in rank than him now, Stil did as his friend asked. Though he deserved none, Arg0naut managed to call in a few favors. A science vessel, controlled from the inside by the tactition Bob and 1 medic followed Arg0naut and 3 vultures. A dropship hovered above them, ready to follow. As the drivers of the hover bikes, Dark Nape, Zan and Stil followed determindely, Arg0naut was reminded of his 2 old friends. Govey and Fright. They had trained with him from the start, they both endured torture through the same acadamy. As often as Arg0naut had failed, those two had pushed him along. Their support and out of class training were the only reason he had made it through the acadamy. They were dead now, following Arg0nauts orders. Govey in his Goliath and Fright in his tank died side by side. They died defending a worthless mineral only expansion that Arg0naut had assigned them too. After fending off several hydralisks and zerglings, Ultralisks rampaged through the front lines--through the ground that they bravely held to the end. Arg0naut had let the enemy build up, he was weak in command. He will join them soon. The traveling companions traveled the charred planet together in silence for miles. An scv circled ahead. "You've gone to die, haven't you?" Furios asked as he halted. He and several others stood there in what was once a rich mineral patch. Arg0naut said nothing. "Can I come too?" he asked. "No, just... stay here and watch for bangalaas," came the reply. "Boy Howdy, you got it!" said Furios with complete enthusiasm. "Simple minded fool," muttered Stil. They continued on, zerg creep was in sight over towards the East. Walking past it, they saw the slimy beginnings of another area of the purple ooze, immediately West. They continued on. There it was, a double guysered haven of jewels! Minerals so rich and thick that they reflected the light of far distant stars directly into the eyes. Enough to captivate a man until he is left blind. "Lay the mines," Arg0naut instructed. Dark Nape, Stil and Zan circled Arg0nauts sides and flank. 9 well placed mines littered the area. Explosive death, ready to be triggered instantaneously. "Now go, board the dropship," came the order from the lowely marine. They were reluctant to do so. But with a collective nod, the 3 loyal companions hovered their way on board. "Farewell, Arg0," Stil said. Arg0naut nodded one last time to his friends. Bob then cast defensive matrix on the medic and on the dropship and turned around. He headed back to the camp. Arg0naut then ran, full speed, onward. Onward into the heart of this mining colony. By god the scum would feel this, he thought. They will feel the sting of a long dead soldier! The drones splattered all around, in the fury of his U-278 sh*ll s! From all sides, out of all the surrounding zerg bases, came the hoard. Horrid biological monstrostities, scourn of all decent life ran at them. The medic, fear stricken but loyal to her old friend stood by him. She healed the countless explosive spines that dug into his body. She healed the cruel tuskmarks that ravaged his flesh. She healed the gobs of h*ll fire that rained on him from the looming guardians that crept their way above. So many of the vile creatures fell before him. The tide of the enemy was held back by the devastating mines long enough to disrupt the flow of the economy. Arg0naut, amidst the carnage that was his true element, noticed the blue globe beginning to spark and fade that protected his comrades. "Into the ship!", he yelled to the medic. She did so, and they flew off. Watching as their friend was washed over, watching as he was covered and no longer seen beneath the cruel, ravaging claws of the zerg force, the dropship flew off into the horizon. It out ran the surrounding units that attacked it, most were held at bay for fear of mines. Meanwhile the defensive shield still held against any fire that the ship was currently under. But Arg0naut was not dead, he still felt their attacks. And in his last thoughts he reflected back on how things were. He gave praise to his friends who flew back. For he knew that he was not the brave one. No, it was those that left him behind who were the real heroes. They were truley the brave ones. Its easy to sacrifice your own life for what you think is good, for what you believe in. It is those that you leave behind that are the ones who feel your loss. In not trying to talk him out of his mission, in accepting his fate and obeying his final requests, they were the heroes, the martyrs. His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of his own scream. Lashing about, throwing down his now emptyed gun, Arg0naut punched and through those that swarmed him. But giving in to human restrictions, he collapsed. Against too many foes the reality crashed down on him. That day, Arg0 finally fell. Replacing the horror around him, he heard only silence.
