My first report!

The Intro

Welcome to the bloody hell that is C&C Renegade! If you don't know, it's a killer FPS with fun multiplayer action! I'll bore you with the basics:

The boring basics

The thing is this: When you start a game, it's a big blood fest as your team tries to go out and kill the enemy’s base. There are two affiliations, each with different units and vehicles and some unique structures. These are the GDI and Nod. The bases consist of around 5 identical buildings:
  • Power Plant
  • Tiberium refinery
  • Barracks/Hand of Nod
  • Weapons Factory/Airstrip
  • Defensive Structure: Advance Guard tower/Obelisk

I'll spare you the time and space and put a link to Westwood's Site so you can read up on what else is involved so I can get right to my action!

The Players and the Field

There are usually more than 36 people in the games that I play at a time, and this game i played over a few weeks ago so i don’t remember name's. I (demonme3) was on the GDI side on a map called "hourglass," which is my least favorite map (unless your on GDI...you'll see). I'll try to draw a map (I’m not good with them though:

|____________GDI BASE_______________|

Yeah okay it sucks but there is no "minimap" and i cant take screenshots cause i have lots of warcraft III screens and i'm too lazy to get rid of them. The spot in the middle is a big hill k? That's where the tiberium is located, and where most long range vehicles (MRLS and Mobile Artillery) take pot shots at enemy buildings . Here's the key to the map:
X= A tunnel entrance. There is a tunnel under the hill that leads to both bases or to the middle of the sides. R=Some rocks where you can hide as an infantry and either shoot at vehicles coming over the hill, snipe at people in the enemy base, or heal up friendly vehicles or soldiers.
I wont try to draw up the base, but all the buildings are there, plus a little stretch of walls on both sides near entrance to base, to prevent vehicles from storming in from all sides.

The Big Bloodbath Boldly Begins!

I start out as a soldier, and immediately get into a building to change my character. Inside every building is a station (a screen on a wall) where you can purchase characters and vehicles (or even Ion cannon or Nuclear strike beacons, mwahahahaha!). I change into the shotgun soldier outfit, as i don’t have enough creds for an advanced character, and head out to the tunnel, where the fighting ALWAYS begins on this God-forsaken map. As soon as i'm in i see some Nod shotgun soldiers, regular soldiers, an engineer and some flamethrowers. Luckily, my team was in there too. Immediately a square (stick?) of remote C4 is thrown at us, and the owner blows us up. I managed to shoot down a flamethrower soldier to about 1/4 his health, but his engineer friend repairs him (bitch, your mine!). Right now I've gotten about 450 credits, so i can buy either Chain gun Officer, Rocket Launcher Officer, or Sydney with her tiberium auto rifle. I opt for the rocket launcher as it's devastating and in the close combat of the tunnels it'll hurt lots :D. As soon as I've let off two rockets I'm shot down by a stealth black hand unit (when not attacking, they are invisible, so it's fun to walk up to people and place timed C4 on them. 30 seconds later, KABOOM!), who has the mean ass laser rifle. I've now got 700 credits, and I've gotten a bit sick o' the tunnels so i decide to go on top of the hill.

The Tanks on Haunted Hill

I see three Mobile Rocket Launcher vehicles pounding Nod'sTiberium Refinery, a little advantage GDI has on this map (tib. refineries have a little tower that juts up a bit, allowing long range vehicles to hit them safely unless the opponent gets his sorry ass up the hill and attack the vehicles). I decide to engineer and use my mad repairing skillz (*sarcasm*, but you wouldn't know it) to heal my allies. Eventually, a stealth tank (another sneaky bitch Nod has) comes and blasts the MRL's. The MRL's have a minimum range so the stealth tank takes it to his advantage. He DOES take a little splash damage though, but that's not enough and i set out on my first (i do it a lot) of many (it's fun) suicidal runs. I run up to the stealth tank and slap some C4 on that thing! I detonate it RIGHT before the tank runs over me, and his health is down to 'nil. That's when some guy with a rocket launcher comes and blasts it to the sky (or, at least...the hill).

Payback!

The soldier inside the vehicle always survives an explosive vehicle, but not if someone proceeds to shoot him in the head with a Ramjet rifle, the best sniper rifle in the game. That's right, your hero, the great DEMON has decided to be a sniper. Now's the time to exploit one of the most annoying bugs if your Nod, the fact that your defensive tower (the obelisk, or obby or obbie) can't hit enemy units on the hill. It's funny, you can actually see the laser go straight into you, but you take no damage, as long as you don't get close to the edge of the hill. I haven't played this game in awhile so i don't know if this bug is fixed or not. But anyway, I've got my scope set on some of those silly fools running around the Nodbase. First, i try to find the easy shots (the basic character classes, soldier, shot gun trooper, etc. get shot down in one hit of the Ramjet rifle) and pick 'em off, one by one. They are either running to a building to get a new character (damn now it's gotta be TWO shots), get a vehicle, go into tunnels and fight (still?), or repair their damaged buildings. After about 30 short seconds I've got about 5 kills (hey, that's a lot for me) under my belt, and someone FINALLY (finally) notices me. Fortunately, it's a basic soldier. He tries shooting where it hurts (my head, not there ya sicko) and i take more damage than usual. I steady my shot and shoot him in the arm (remember, one hit kill :-D) and he's down. I'm at about 35% health, but I decide I'll still shoot on. I'm taking pot shots at the enemy, but some are advanced and it's harder to shoot down a running guy in two shots when he takes refuge in a building. Suddenly! My health! Oh nooo it's going up!!!! Wha? Yay someone's "repairing" me. I say, "ty" and proceed to shoot the crap out of a Mobile Artillery (it's lightly armored, and can be torn up by ramjets) and see the desperate engineer who bought it try to heal it while I'm shooting at him.

Someone Else's Payback

Finally, after 3 shots i hear the *doink* noise that sounds when you kill someone, and all of a sudden my health goes to 50% and i literally jump in my chair. I go to the rocks at the side, popping out occasionally to see if I could find the enemy sniper. But, 'tis not a sniper, and 'tis not in the enemy base. He's in the set of rocks opposite my position, and he's that damn Raveshaw with the Anti-Vehicle Rail gun, (although it can be just as good against infantry as the ramjet). I saw him right before he tried to shoot at me, and my Jedi reflexes (it's true, i have them!) proceed to shoot the midget (raveshaw is VERY small) in the waist. Forunately for him, he's got an advanced character and now he is at 50% health. I take my chances and prepare for a duel, using what i like to call the "Ballerina" strategy to dodge his shots. Basically, the ballerina strategy has you jump up and down in different directions, strafing side to side and hopping up and down to dodge enemy fire while trying to shoot down your opponent. Suddenly, it starts looking like a dance competiton, kinda like some cheerleaders showing each other who's better, only they have guns, and intend to use them.

The show must NOT go on!

Eventually, every hero dies, and that's the same for yours (your saying, "what hero?"). But it doesn’t matter, I've got enough creds for another sniper. But..................I never even bothered to see what else was happening, and immediately some big Flame tanks come rolling into our base. Flame tanks are heavy and expensive vehicles that shoot a continuous stream of fire, best at burning down vehicles or buildings. There's about 4 of them, and that usually means some buildings will die. So i follow the rest of my team and get Anti-Vehicle characters (too bad i just wasted 1000 creds on my sniper), choosing The lovely Sydney with her devastating Person Ion Cannon. The Personal Ion Cannon, or PIC, is a big weapon that shoots a bolt of blue stuff (ion?) that can take out a vehicle in moments (also as devastating against infantry as the ramjet). We eventually beat them flame tanks back and i go back to my role as sniper.

The Counter! dun dun duuunnnn!!!!

Our vehicles held out on that assault, so we attacked Nod's base. I get up on the hill and pick off the lil 'tards who think they can mess with our medium and MAMMOTH tanks. The medium tank is, well, a medium tank with moderate armor and decent fire power, while the Mammoth tank is one big azz mofo with lot's of armor and health, and good firepower. I shoot down the Raveshaws, Mendoza's, black hand's, Sakura's and other characters until i see that the tanks can fend for themselves. I then proceed to shoot down any engineer stupid enough to run into my line of fire trying to get to a building to repair it. Some people are just retarded. OBVIOUSLY, they know that there's a sniper up there, and he's so gosu he's racked up 52 kills (almost 5 times better than the second best killer). That's when i laugh and laugh, cause someone on Nod screams out, "GOD DAMMIT DON'T ANY OF YOU SEE THAT %$#@ SNIPER UP THERE???? GET HIM FOR CHRIST'S SAKE! %@%#!"

I Feel So Evil, Yet Feel So Good

People then start leaving the game, and, "GG's" are said. I pick off my last opponent before the last Nod building is destroyed, and I decide to leave the game and wait for wonderful Warcraft III to be released (this is a flashback :D)
Some thoughts I'd like to share:
  • C&C Renegade is an awesome game and if you like FPS's, then get it!
  • I am merely writing this report as i am, it's summer, and i'm bored and waiting for a patch of Warcraft III.
  • I am now learning html so I'm pretty sure in the near future I'll have something better :D
  • I hope this expands your horizon on great games, 'cause sometimes War3, SC, AoE, and the other games get kinda boring
  • At least this better than Time's crappy jokes he stole. take no offense to that, Time :D
  • My reports WILL have pics in the future, that is if i decide to be a reporter
  • If i do, I'll do a better job than this
  • The goggles.....They do nothing!
Peace!
