PvZ: Holy War

Another I'm-at-school-and-I'm-bored-as-hell-at-Web-Design (we're finally starting HTML though yay!)-Report, this one taking place in the StarCraft Universe on the wonderful little map of Lost Temple. Just a little HTML goodness on the title.

I've come to an epiphany of sorts in recent days: StarCraft is just a better game than WarCraft III. Hang me from the rafters if you wish, but StarCraft is just faster, more exciting, and all-around better than War3. Anyway, onto the game.

Vegeta{cAs} vs. KoreanRush(cAs), a PvZ on Lost Temple, brought to you by me, Vegeta. It was my 2nd game on SC after being on War3 for the past month or so, so I was prepared to be beaten badly by my counterpart (and yes, he is Korean). So I booted up one of the hundreds of Lost Temple Obs maps and waited for Korean to join.

He did, and we began. I arrived with a Blue Nexus at 9, with four shiny Probes and 50 minerals. I was eager to gamble my money at the Nexus Casino, and started another Probe while cloning my Probes (or whatever you guys call it) horribly, 2 each to 2 patches. My opening build is as follows, a build no one should ever follow on Temple vs. Zerg, or so Korean told me:

7/9: Pylon
9/9: Gateway
10/17: Assimilator
11/17: Zealot
13/17: Cybernetics Core
15/17: Zealot
17/17: Pylon

As you can see, I built my second Pylon when the cool Executor voice said "Build more Pylons." This is usually what happens to me. Meanwhile, KoreanRush was doing his usual "rush me if you dare whore" build at 6:

8/9: Overlord
9/9: Hatchery at Expansion
10/17: Spawning Pool
12/17: Extractor
14/17: 6 Zerglings, Overlord
17/25: Two Sunken Colonies at Expansion

I scout with a Zealot, and my notion of rushing is mercifully killed. I get up a Forge along with a Nexus and Pylon at my natural and a Pylon at my ramp. In the meantime, Korean had massed about 24 Zerglings and threw them at me. I canceled my Nexus and headed for ramp with 4 Zealots and 2 Dragoons. I killed about 5 Zerglings before he ran back and I started up again, this time with 2 Cannons at the ramp and 2 at my natural.

Korean attacked again, this time with the survivors of his first attack. This, of course, fails, with him losing all his Zerglings to Psi Blades and shining blue baseballs or whatever Dragoons and Cannons fire. I sent my men to his mineral only, retreating as I see the 4 Sunken Colonies and 8 Hydralisks at his expansion.

I get my expansion up, making two more Gateways to raise my number to 5, and getting Cybernetic Enhancements and Psionic Storm. I get my expansion up and running and getting several Observers, which I send around the map. He has no expansions, which of course I take as a good thing. I move my men to his mineral only, about 10 Zealots, 5 Dragoons and 2 High Templar, only to get flanked by two groups of around 12 Hydralisks each from the right and the left. I storm, and storm, and then I realize I'm out of energy. 6 Hydras run back to Korean's exp, and I go back to mine with 7 Zealots, 3 Dragoons and 2 High Templar.

About a minute later I send my men to his mineral only and attack his natural with about 15 Dragoons, 10 Zealots, and 4 High Templar. This doesn’t work, as he has about 25 Hydralisks and 5 Sunken Colonies. I retreat, my men decimated.

Not a bad exchange, because I took out a lot of his units and expanded to my mineral only, I have more units popping out of Gateways at home, and one of my roving Observers spots a defenseless exp at the 3 main, a morphing hatch. Denying it to him will almost certainly win the game, I think.

Rounding up my units, I send them to kill the 3 main while getting some Cannons, some Dragoons, and a High Templar at my mineral only. 3 is taken out quite nicely, and I stop his counter with one well-placed storm, sacrificing my Dragoons, Cannons, and two Gateways I’d been constructing at my mineral only to stop his Hydralisks.

I take 3 for my own and gear up for (hopefully) the final assault. I by now have an ungodly number of Dragoons and Templar (by War3 standards). I’m at 156/200 and go to put a hurting on Korean. He has a Hatchery morphing at his mineral only with about 60 Hydralisks and several morphing Lurkers. I hit the Lurkers with a storm just after they hatch and take out the Hydralisks as well. He cancels the Hatchery and I move down to his natural, taking it out as well.

He says “gg” and leaves. GG Korean!
