Well, this game was somewhat short and somewhat easy, but I'll try to whomp it up as much as I can. (; Remember, there's an important message here:

Friends don't let friends have undefended mineral lines.

Call me a newbie-killer if you will, but damn... 90% of all players in public games have no concept of guarding the minerals against drops.

Oh well. Shall we begin?

The map: Dire Straits. (woo hoo!)

The contestants: (One versus One)

Dev (Tyderis): Random, Orange Zerg, lower-left start.
FuzzyDucky: Chosen, White Terrans, lower right corner.

Upon entering the game and seeing that fate has given me a mound of trash and a carpet of purple to command, I utter the phrase "The random gods have cursed me a fourth straight time!" Of my last four random selections, every single last one of them was Zerg. I hate Zerg. I'm horrible with Zerg. I can't stand them. Zerg have a chemical imbalance in my own brain that keeps me from being effective with them. (:

My opponent remains oddly silent upon hearing this.

Well, I'm not quite sure what I'm doing, but I heard early gas and double lair gets drops up fast, so that's where I head. I send my big orange sonde balloon (overlord) floating to the bottom right to begin scouting, and send my second one to the top left.

Fifteen minutes later (it seems like) helium bucket #1 spots a white terran barracks in the lower right. I call my other floating bag o' gas back home and park my overlord on the left-side edge of my new pal's island, looking for expansion floats or later drops.

I morph a hydra den and start on the upgrades for something to do; meanwhile the lairs have morphed and I'm working on hot-air balloon speed and transport upgrades.

As soon as my floating targets are equipped with Jet-Engines, I order my intrepid spy zepplin (the overlord at FuzzyDucky's island) to check to see what my pal has sitting in the gap between his minerals and the south edge of the island. Low and behold, nothing. Sigh.

I research lurker aspect for something to do while I wait for my home office to hang baskets under my now jet-powered overlords. I don't feel like saving gas for a large pack of lurkers so I just load up a control group of hydralisks into a trio of big floating things (I'm running out of overlord metaphors) and send them whisking along to the south edge of my enemy's dark, forbidding (well, not really) stronghold.

I dump the mass of hydras down behind his mineral line and they go to town. SCV after nose-picking SCV goes pop with a cute little noise. I have both lairs on hotkey and use 'em to crank out hyrdas at home for reinforcements (I'm expecting tanks by this point).

But no! Down through the minerals troops a mixed pack of four marines, four firebats, and four medics or so. I micro my hydras and shift click, focusing fire on the marines, then the firebats, then the medics. I lose five hydralisks. Drat.

I finish off the scvs, morph two hydras into lurkers, then start poking around in my pal's base. I see two fully-loaded bunkers above his command center, walled in with depots but well out of position to protect his SCV's from ranged attackers. Oh well. I circle his base with my gallant (well, maybe not so gallant) victorious forces, knocking down whatever I can that's outside of bunker range. Depots, refinery, academy, factory, e-bay, blah blah blah. I managed to lose three of my remaining five hydras to stupid AI and my own wonderous micro skills.

No matter, the big oragne balloons have sped to my base and returned with replacements for the expendable boys. I morph my last two initial hydralisks into lurkers, for a total of four, and sacrifice two of tweleve hydras to knock down my pal's comsat. Now all that's left in 'our' base is a burning command center, an idle barracks, two depots, and two manned-and ready ever-vigilant bunkers.

With no detection, the kamikaze lurkers burrow under and take down the last bastion of democracy on the planet. Long live the hive culture!

But seriously folks, heed the lesson. One bunker placed judiciously in that big, wonderful open spot behind the minerals that just cries out "drop on me, drop on me!" would have made me actually, like, expand and stuff and maybe even play for real. (:

Ciao.
Dev
