Ok, before the report starts, I’d like to ask you to take it easy. This is my first report. A friend told me about this site a few days ago. So I played a game today and decided to write a Battle Report about it. Well, bear with me, and here goes nothin’. (:

Sometime this afternoon I was just sitting around on Battle.Net being lazy. (No surprise there). I thought a nice 1x1 would be great, so I clicked the List, checked games... "BGH 5vs3Comps!!!" (Why do they shout the game titles at you? Like a BGH game is a big surprise nowadays...)

A few BGH games down the list and I hit the jackpot: "1 Vs 1 Anti-BGH" With a quick cry of "WooHoo!" I clicked into the game. My Enemy (He’s asked me to withhold his name from this), greets me, then asks if I’m a lame Disconnector. I ask him if Bill Clinton is a good husband. (:. With a quick laugh we start the game:

The Matchup:

$gt.Zorn(me), Orange Terran(Chosen), 6:00

V.S.

Enemy (him), Blue Zerg (Chosen), 12:00

I had several goals this game. Knowing that my Slimy Opponent was Zerg at the 12:00 spot, I decided I’d concentrate on the following goals.

Aspirations:

Contain him to one base. (The thing about the 12:00 spot on Lost Temple, is that the choke doesn’t cover the Ramp, so you can contain the expansion while killing their main. If you’re able to accomplish this, you’ve pretty got the game wrapped up.)
Head for 3/3 Marines /w Range and Stimpacks. These little guys are some of the best units you can get. Backed up by Medics and later on, Science Vessels, 3/3 Marines totally Own the Zerg.

My Command Center set down and out came my Four SCVs; I quickly ordered each to a different mineral patch using a Shift-Click Method. (You click all of them to a patch, then Shift-Click one of them, then click another patch, then Shift-Click another, etc.) I built another SCV with my minerals.

I continued on by Grabbing Sam the SCV and having Sam construct a Depot whenever my 8th SCV was halfway done.

As soon as Sam finished up work on the Depot, I ordered him to construct a Barracks right next to my Command Center, on the side away from the Minerals. (I do this so I don’t have to move my Cursor as far to click on my Barracks, it also puts the Barracks on the Screen whenever you click "F2" You can quickly build marines during a battle this way.)

Sam constructed the Barracks whenever I was at 10/18 Control, right after he began construction of the Barracks; I trained my 11th SCV. As soon as my 11th SCV came out, I ordered another Barracks right next to the one Sam was currently constructing. About this time I also order another Depot to be put up, as I don’t want to fall behind in supply.

I always make it a goal to have the Command Center and Barracks constantly building during the Early-Game period.

As soon as Sam is done constructing his Barracks, I queue up two Marines and set Sam’s Movement waypoints over the Three other starting positions. About this time my other Barracks finishes also. I queue up two Marines here also and have this SCV construct another Depot.

As Sam passes the Ramp, I set the Rally Points of both Barracks to the Top of my Ramp. I also queue up a few more Marines and continue to produce SCVs. (You should always overproduce SCVs at your first Command Center, this way you can transfer some of them when you expand to your natural)

At this point in the game I have Three Depots with a Fourth building, Two Barracks, Some Marines at the top of my ramp, the 3:00 position scouted, and many SCVs, and a booming economy.

I now order up an Academy and more Marines. About this time, a Blue Drone scuttles down to my base on a Mission very similar to Sam’s. Unfortunately for it, Sammy, Mark, Harry, and a few other Marines decided to test out their Spiffy new Gauss Rifles on it. (:. Ok, good, I’ve denied the Slimy Menace a look at my base.

While the Academy is constructing, I also put down a Refinery, Engineering Bay, and another Depot.

About this time, Sam reaches 12:00, whereupon he discovers two Sunkens by the ramp, both Morphing (Phew!) and several Hydralisks, which are sitting around doing what Zergs do. He skirts the edge of the base and sees a Morphing Lair, another Hatchery Morphing, and two sunkens. The Hydras finally realize what’s going on and Escort Sam out of the base. Sam does barely make it out, having 40 Hp, but then getting pegged by a Sunken guarding the entrance, he dies, but discovers that the natural was still empty.

Here’s where the containment begins, I send 12 Marines to right below the 12:00 ramp:

"Come on Boys, let’s go hold back some Slimers!"

You’ll note the scouted 3:00 spot on the Mini-Map. By this time the Academy and Eng. Bay have finished and remember, I’m still building SCVs and Depots. At this point I have around 100 Gas, so I get Stimpacks, with my next 100, I get two Medics and a Comsat, then I go for Infantry Armor.

Ok, I also begin construction of a Comm Center in my base, which I will later float to the Natural and perform the SCV transfer. I keep pumping Marines and Medics, get more Depots and a Factory. I still have my Marines at the bottom of the, by now a Hydralisk has spotted them and they’ve killed another drone, which I’m guessing was going for a Naked Expansion.

I also get a Bunker and a Turret at the top of my Ramp and on the rear of my base and another Bunker by my Command Center. Later, I will add Tanks to this and actually have good defense vs. Drops. I also send some more Medics and Marines up to reinforce my troops at the 12:00 ramp. I also have scanned him a couple times, and have noted he has 15-20 Hydras and 4 Lurkers randomly spaced throughout the base.
He has tried to expand again, this time using Hydras to try and break my Marine blockade, but was unsuccessful. Sammy, Mark, Harry, and the boys are just having a good time at the ramp’s bottom. I’ve now got about 20 Marines and 4 Medics at the ramp bottom, I’ve also started a Starport and my other Comm Center is almost done, I’m pumping Tanks, Marines and Medics, I also saw about 15 Zerglings, so I made two Firebats and sent them to my forward position.
I now decided it was time to commence the attack. I knew pushing up the ramp was gonna be tough, but hey, it’s what the Boys are good for right? I Stim up and Run up the ramp, killing two sunkens at the top, before the Hydras come to put an end to me, no Lurkers yet:

"Come on Sammy, pop them Spiny Junkheaps!"

After the Gauss and Spine exchange was settled, I came out on top with 8 Marines, but I still had some Lurkers to Kill. I scanned and carefully advanced on the base, I also noticed an Overlord go drop a drone at the Natural.
Sammy and the Boys headed into the Base to find Lurkers in various stages of Anger, mostly because their Hydra friends had just been popped back at the Ramp. I went back to the base and queued up stuff in every building, Dropships at the Starport, and I started my Sci Facility with my Weapons upgrade about to finish. I also floated my Comm center down to my natural and performed the transfer. Ok, this ends the first half of the Report, will our Heroic Marines be able to destroy the Ugly Lurker-Types at the Zerg base, or will they become E.T.’s dogfood?

*Cheesy Music Starts Up

"It’s Intermission!"

Now a word from our Sponsor:

"Look Sammy, ‘dem boys we work fer is on the T.V. again!"

Welcome back to the Report, ok, Sammy and the Boys Stimmed up and prepared to put on a fancy Dancing escapade for the Lurkers, while the others were dancing, Sammy, Ted, and John (Mark and Harry were lost at the ramp… *Sniff) proceeded to bag themselves a couple Lurkers, with the help of a Com-Sat of course:

"Good Shootin’ Boys, let’s pop a few more of them Big, Spiky Slimers!"

"YeeHaw! Sammy, you done blew its head clean off!"

At this point my opponent makes a weird comment. He says, "You play like Heartcutter" I’ve never met Heartcutter before and I wondered how this guy expects me to know who that is. But if he has a similar style to mine he can’t be all bad. (:. About this time I sent up some more troops to guard the Natural at 12, I had accomplished my main goal pretty much at this Stage, I had reduced him to his Natural only. I also got the 2 Weapons upgrade, and some Various other goodies, I also started making another Command Center, during the attack, mine had finished and I floated it to the Bottom Right island. At this point I was feeling pretty confident about my chances of winning, but I didn’t let that go to my head. (Ok, maybe just a little) Sammy was feeling it also, and took a quick pause from the action for a cool, refreshing beverage and to say Hi:

"Lookit that! Sammy’s on the T.V.!"

I scanned the Natural to see what my opponent had at this point, two sunkens, a Hydra den, and about 4-5 Hydras. I finished mopping up his main, killing two more Random sunkens and some Overlords that hadn’t Skedaddled yet.

I sent my new Comm Center to the 9:00 start, and got the last upgrade, at this point my Marines were 2/3. I Stimmed and sent my reinforcements into the natural, while I guarded the cliffs from Overlords w/ Cargo trying to escape. I had everything finished off but then along came George the Hydralisk. With a sexy Zergy type moan of his, he had to get in the last words:

*Insert Zerg Noise here

I finished mopping up the expansion and claimed Victory of the game, I wasn’t sure if I’d have the firepower to take down the last Extractor though. (: Well, maybe I did:

"I can already feel the victory celebration"

With a "gg" and "Well Played" my Enemy left the game, leaving you know who with a very Satisfying win indeed.

*Lessons Learned

Me:

Containing your opponent to the 12:00 Natural only almost ensures a victory.
Scout, Scout, Scout! You’ll notice my recon wasn’t very good this game, as the whole left side of the map is Black in the winning shot. I got lucky in the fact that he hadn’t expanded to the island at the Top Left.
Upgraded Marines are the Terran Bread & Butter & Whatever else is on the Table when facing the Zerg. 3/3 Marines with Medics and Science Vessels is nearly unstoppable.
Float, Float, Float them buildings. The Terran have the advantage of mobility, use it! This is something I rarely see done and I really don’t why it isn’t.

Him:

Use your advantage of Burrow! He could have taken advantage of Burrow and used the Lurkers a lot better then he did.
The way out of containment is Transports, if he’d loaded up a drone and expanded to 9:00, I wouldn’t have known about it the whole game.
A direct assault on containment forces is not a winner. He could’ve dropped some Hydras off and hit my Marines from both sides, instead of marching down the ramp a few at a time.

This ends my first Battle Report, I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it. Suggestions? Improvements? Criticisms? Compliments? Please add them to the Comments section, along with a reason if it’s a Criticism, "This report sucks" tells me nothing about anything except your I.Q.
