The Report you've all been waiting for...

2 years in the making, kind of...

PR.. IS.. BACK!

*Crowd cheers!* Yes! Thank you! Thank you! After a 2 year mission in the wonderful country of Guatemala I have dutifully returned to bring you "Reasonably good Battle Reports." I shall not let my promise go unfulfilled. I am here to do just that, although my HTML isn’t what it used to be and, hell, it took me a few hours to figure out Adobe Photoshop. The biggest setback, however, was actually finding a good game to Battle Report.

Oh yes, I enjoyed my share of adventures when I re-installed this game on my computer again. LuckyNewbie mainly kicking my sorry Protoss butt up and down ‘til I finally subdued him with carriers on Fading Realm. What? What you are is what you eat. I'm all cheese, baby.

All-Fear managed to hook me up with an excellent replay for my Battle Reporting pleasure and for your viewing er... happiness. *I can’t say pleasure twice! ... Or can I? Hmm...* I enjoyed the game as it kept me guessing. So I'll give a shout out to All-Fear for the Replay. You can download it at this link.

Now without further adu...

Cool huh?

I've heard from a few sources (mainly All-Fear) that Androide and Blackman are both Pro Players still competing to be the best of the best in this 8 year old game.

The map they are fighting on is unknown to me but is called Azalea, and looks to be fairly promising. Here's a Minimap to give you some clues.

Hmm. Korean.

The starting positions are in the corners and looks like it could be a 4 player map. The mains all have chokes that lead outside into 2 expansions. 1 is a Mineral Only and is near another choke point that leads out into the middle. The 2nd expansion has Gas and fewer Minerals and is somewhat positioned further away from the mineral only and your main. Blackman starts in the Top Left while Androide gets the Bottom Right.

Androide, seeing the small choke as his only entrance, starts a barracks to from a wall while sending our beloved Deon the Peon to scout to the West (Left). I don’t know if Androide knew who Deon was personally, but yet, there Deon was. In the thick of it all once again. Meanwhile, Blackman sends his starting Overlord to the East (Right) to find his Terran foe.

As both players build up their economies, Blackman pulls the old extractor trick to build an extra drone, giving him an edge in the mineral race. There he is folks. Give him a hand. The tricks don’t end there, Oh no, Blackman has a handful of them up his sleeve, and being the sneaky fellow that he is, expands to his Mineral Only as Deon the Peon wanders into view. Androide forced our faithful Deon to continued on into the Zerg main to discover a Spawning Pool being completed. Androide has him high-tail it out of there and head towards the Gas expansion to see if the Zerg have infested it as well. Upon arrival Deon finds a drone beginning to morph a hatchery and is taken by surprise as some nasty zerglings come up from behind and quickly end his life.

Androide, seeing the threat of a double expanding Zerg, moves out at the 5 minute mark with 7 marines, 2 firebats, and 2 medics and proceeds to rape a small containment force of zerglings just outside his main. Attack moving congo style, of course. An SCV was taken along for the ride to begin a factory a short distance outside of Blackman’s entrance into his Mineral Only . Why? I don’t really know but I suppose Androide suspected 1 thing. A stiff resistence. He was going to need tanks as soon as possible and as close as possible.

Gogo Sunken wall!

He was right. Resistence WAS stiff. With the Hydralisk Den placed blocking the marines from assaulting effectively, it was harder for Androide to simply charge past and deeper into enemy territory. Rejected, Androide waited just outside of sunken’s range. Androide’s strike force was baited time to time by zerglings into attacking the sunkens but the Terran Commander kept a tight rein on his men. He was content to wait for the tanks before engaging.

Blackman, living up to his name, knows all the tactics involved in busting up M&M. That is, bringing the powerful lurkers into play and using their powerful spines to rip the infantry apart while providing support with what forces he could muster. A few lurker eggs were morphing a few spaces behind the line of defense, out of sight. For good measure Blackman started a Spire for the mobility of the Mutalisk but he was also a curious fellow and wanted to know why the Terran force hadn't moved in yet. Blackman sent off a pimp squad of zerglings to see what the hold-up was. I'm sure he was surprised by what he saw.

I just HATE Terran siege tanks. Stupid tanks.

The zerglings tried to eliminate the constructing SCV but were destroyed in their attempt. The SCV, Bob, felt quite lucky. That is, until he started building a little too close to a sunken colony... But no matter. The push would go on. Now that Androide had Siege Tanks at his disposal, it would take little time to whittle the colonies to... (Well. I'd like to say ashes but that doesn’t work.) ...little piles of intestines, broken sex toys, and gore.

More Sunky goodness. *Pre-Push* Uh oh... *Post-Push*

The Terran force pushes onward and soon the expansion is exposed. As you can tell by the pictures. The Lurkers have finished and immediately burrow to prevent a bum rush by the marines who were itching to get inside and wreck the place. Alas, the tactic proves futile as the Terran Commander brings up more Siege Tanks and comsats the surrounding area, dealing instant death to the lurkers.

CLICK! CLICK! BOOM!

An effective push could very well end the game right here and now but Androide has only a few comsats to spare if more lurkers show up and things start to get dicey amongst the marines but to hell with it all. The Terrans, damning the odds, rush inside to finish off the rest of the Zerg expansion when they meet the homecoming party.

It's like a party in my pants!

Attack pwnage. What follows is pretty much a massacre. Blackman, rushing in his troops single file, takes a heavy kick to the groin as he loses his entire attack force and lurker squad to the stubborn Terrans but did complete his objective. Destroying the Siege Tanks and grinding the Terran Offensive to a halt.

Cut them off at the pass! Man, I hate it when we say that! Or so Blackman thought but turns out Androide had his own tricks to play. In a daring move, the bastard advances his remaing marine force directly TOWARD the enemy main. He had just recently been reinforced by 8 or so more marines//medics and decided to continue on without Siege support. He quickly and effectively skimmed past a defending lurker and hydralisk.

A small skirmish takes place as Androide enters the Zerg Fortress. He tries to prevent admitance to the enemy lurkers behind him by rushing back to attack them as they un-burrow and while he succeeds in killing 1 or 2 he has to fall back further into Blackman’s main as Black was doing the bunny hop approach to get his lurkers in to do damage. Androide stims and attack moves up to begin firing on random Zerg buildings but, seeing 2 lurkers burrow and prepare to fire, deftly splits his marines. This excellent display of micro causes the first wave of lurker spines to miss.

You can dance if you want to. You can leave your friends behind because if your friends dance and if they dont dance well they're no friends of mine. That means YOU Neovipe.

The forthcoming comsat will end the lurkers lives and Blackman has to do something about it and quick if he hopes to use them a little longer. A few zerglings are made and rushed to help the overpowered lurkers but, even with supporting drones, were not able to save them nor themselves...

GAME OVER MAN!

With the loss of his main and his lurkers turned to dust. Blackman concedes the game to Androide.

Woah! What a close game. When I saw Blackman pull the double expansion I thought for sure he was going to be able to pull the win! With the static defense clogging up the front gate I thought for sure that those marines were NEVER going to get in but goes to show you that if you let a Terran take his time to contain you, you will be screwed in the long run.

I believe what also happened that lead to Blackman’s loss is that he used too much resources in too many things. Upgrading Hydralisks AND building a spire? Not to mention he must of pumped a lot of money into drones to be able to get those expansions online so my guess is that it hampered his ability to mass more defending units. Androide kept his cool at the sight of the double expansion and kept pushing Blackman back instead of panicking to build his own expansion and play defensively.

Good game all around. I just want to give one more shout out to LuckyNewbie for giving me a hand with this report and making fun of me all the while. I know this isn't the best I've done but give me some time and I think I can get back to my usual style. I just wanted to get something out to help my creative juices get going again. Thanks everybody for reading and let me tell you. Its good to be back. AIM me sometime for a game: Reaver188.
