| TvP on Temple (my first BR) | | | Author: | | | IP: | XXXX | | Date: | 07/21/99 09:07 | | Game Type: | Starcraft | | Labels: | Starcraft(1), Text Only(1) | | Report Rating: , # of Ratings: 1, Max: 6, Min: 6 Lifetime Rating for [Stormwolf]: 6.0000 | | After another depressing day at school I decided to unwind with a good game of starcraft... & a good game it was..
Players:
[Stormwolf] Terran (chosen) 9 position
(NF)EvilDork Protoss (random) 3 position
I'm not totally sure if his name was this.. in fact it probably wasn't.. but I will refer to him as this throughout the report
I began with my typical build:
depot on 8 (after completion that scv scouts), Rax #1 on 11 & Rax #2 on 13 with the second depot coming at 14 or 15 (these were setup so that i could wall in somewhat thwarting a decent sized rush with little losses) while constantly producing scv's & marines..
I scouted clockwise and discovered EvilDork at 3 (I already knew his race as i destroyed his scouting probe in my base shortly before i came across his 3 starting position. Before the scout died I discovered a pylon, 2 gateways with a third building warping in and 2 zealots. I unfortunately did not find out what this was until my comsat was up and running.
After my 2nd depot was constructed, I began a refinery and an academy shortly aftewards with another depot when i had the cash. When the refinery finished, i got 3 scv's off minerals and set them to mine gas. Once the academy was finished, i began the training of several medics, the construction of a comsat and stim research. (By now i had about 10 marines i think) Once the comsat was completed i scanned EvilDork.
I discovered that the building i saw warping was a 2nd pylon and next to these were an additional 2 gateways to bring the tally to 4. As anyone would upon seeing this i expected a good sized rush of zealots. To prevent my destruction, i began a building a bunker & substituted medic production for marine production. I also began a factory. With another scv i began on a second bunker when my mineral count allowed followed by a third shortly afterwards. I also trained 4 firebats to put into the bunker's that would be hit first.
The factory finished & I began a machine shop. I scanned EvilDork again to discover a cybernetics core warping in but no zealots visible. My machine shop completed & i researched siege mode and built a tank. By now i had restarted training medics and had build an engineering bay and begun the armour upgrade. I had 10 marines outside bunkers and 4 medics and 2 tanx when i scanned EvilDork next.. this time i scanned his ramp to find about 12 zealots on the lower ground and an expansion was warping in.
I was quite surprised at this and decided to launch an attack. I waited for my 3rd tank and another 4 medics and began the march to EvilDork's base. With 12 marines, 8 medics and 3 tanks en route i scanned once more. This time the main part of his base. I saw what i hoped wouldn't be there, a templar archives (plus the necessary buildings to get to a TA).
I decided to halt my march to his base outside my choke, and grab an scv to build turrets. While i grabbed an scv, a dt attacked one of my tanks. I quickly scanned and eliminated the threat. I hoped desperately that another would not come until my turret was up as i had no comsat energy left. Thankfully none came. I built a second tower, sieged my tanks and replaced the lost tank upon deciding that i would not attack, but rather defend there and expand. (this proved to be a very good decision). Having an extra bit of money, i build a starport, control tower and a dropship planning to drop onto his ledge. This didn't happen until the end however.
Due to my lack of attention, my expansion never really did get going.. Not quite sure what to do next, i began the construction of a science facility and some science vessels for dt detection. After another few scans, i found he had not expanded further than his natural & had a solid defensive setup with high templars on the ledge of his main base overlooking his defence. He also had a shuttle. I suspected a drop in my base so i thickened my internal defence and built a couple of science vessels.
I began the a 3rd CC planning to expand to the top left island. Just after this i discovered he had dropped on my ledge with a probe and sneakily build 4 cannons overlooking my defence and several overlooking my expansion. However a scan and my tanks took care of this with the loss of only a few "hero" marines. I used my dropships to drop 2 tanks, 8 marines and 4 medics to dispatch the rest of the setup. I then placed them in the middle of the plain with a science vessel above them.
After a couple of minutes of nothing much happening came EvilDork's long awaited attack.. I'm not sure on the numbers but it seemed like about 15 or so zealots and about 7 dark templars. Surprisingly my defence of 12 marines, 7 medics and 3 tanks handled this with the loss of only 5 marines, 1 medic and a missile turret with no micromanagement on my part. Again.. not quite sure how this happened. All losses were replaced in short time.
I scanned several more times and discovered he had just expanded to the bottom right island. I decided not to let this setup live much longer. I loaded two dropships with 2 tanks and 8 marines. I also brought along a science vessel to d-mat my dropships. Another scan just before i was about to drop found only two cannons set so that i could drop in the back without being in range. I put on the defence matrixes, sent the science vessel home and proceded to drop. I eliminated the expansion with the loss of two marines attempting to be heroes.. (god thats annoying).
Rather than take them back to my base, i decided to reinforce the expansion and take it for myself. I also attempted to float my cc consctructed earlier to the top left island.. However i was discovered and had to float painstakingly slow bake home with just 100 hp left on the command centre.
I now had about 7 dropships, 4 science vessels, a good number of marines and several medics and also 5 unnecessary tanks. After several more scans i discovered he had expanded to the 12 starting position. I decided not to destroy this, but rather perform the last decisive move. I planned to drop onto his ledge overlooking his expansion and from there i had the game in the bag.
After the construction of several more medics, i loaded 6 tanks, about 20 marines and 10 or so medics into dropships. I took the dropships and the science vessels to EvilDork's plain and unloaded. I quickly seiged and began blasting his expansion into oblivion. I set up my science vessels so that no defencive drop was possible onto his plain without me seeing it.
EvilDork had about 8 corsairs and began to d-web my tanks and surrounding marines. He then began to try and knock my science vessels out of the sky. I was quite uneasy about this as it would be the perfect time for a drop of dragoons. I selected my marines and ran them out from under the disruption web and began shooting at the eeeevvviiillll corsairs. He continued to d-web my pursuing marines. I then d-matrixed my science vessels that were being chased which ensured the loss of only one science vessel. When i finally dispatched the final corsair, about 1/2 of the plain was covered in d-web.
EvilDork then did what i was hoping he would not do earlier. Drop dragoons.. However he only dropped two and my marines dispatched these easily. After a few more seconds, the d-web ran out and my tanx resumed razing EvilDork's expansion. Upon this we exchanged gg's and he left.
Lessons Learnt:
* Expanding while denying the enemy expansions works very effectively (haven't done this strategy much in the past)
* I really have to put a defence on top of my plain overlooking my expansion. I never normally do this and I usually pay the price and end up losing the game. I was lucky this game and the drop was easily dispatched.
* I must work on upgrading my troops. The only upgrade I did in this was the marine armour upgrade.
* I also must work on expanding more effectively. I normally never expand further than my natural and sometimes not even that far. Needless to say, if the game is a long one, i normally lose.
I apoligize for the length of this report as i got carried away. Also i apoligize for the noticeable lack of screenshots as i was not planning this to be a BR.
