Prologue:

While sitting in channel and trying desperately to get a game, I agreed to ref the match between these two heavyweight contenders. After some brief trash talking consisting of each player trying to out trash themselves……I sux….I sux more……. I sux infinity……you get the idea. BP (who was using his newest smurf Blibleh) and Distec under antaries.

Intro:

BP begins as a random terran. Starting top right with a conservative double rax wall-in build. Dis randoms to the bugs and spawns in the lower left, choosing a much more aggressive build double hatching to his min only natural. Both players scout in the worst possible ways finding their opponent at the last place. Neither opponent opts to launch a quick attack bringing us to……..

Tha Game:

Once the second hatch completes Dis drops two sunkens effectively stopping any rine-only rushing, and makes a pair of olords. All the while BP has begun to crank marines amassing around 10-12 and has begun to build his academy. Dis finds ½ the infantry at BP’s ramp with a pair of scouting lings, leaving one outside in the min only expansion. BP had wisely moved his infantry back leaving only a token force to guard his ramp.

After feeling each other’s defenses out and not deciding to attack both sides decide to tech and expand. Dis takes and establishes an expansion at the 6 o’clock spot around the same time BP sallies forth a band of rines to take his natural. At this point Dis is operating two expansions and his main while BP begins his min only expansion. RESOURCE ADVANTAGE!!!!!! Regardless of his current advantage Dis chooses to make a very small troop count. Instead, techs like a whore. Building a lair and hydra den at about the same time as BP gets his factory and Comsat online, BP continues to crank infantry including bats and chicks to help those rines. BP also adds an engineering bay. Dis finishes his lurkers and his gas hatch at the 6 o’clock position at about the same time the first tank rolls off the line. BP then builds a third Barrax to pump those troops, and slowly fortifies his expansion with turrets, bunkers, and tanks. When the first tank sieges at BP’s expansion I look around wondering WTF is he doing, an unchallenged terran expansion?? But then I see a finished queens nest and ¾ done spire with the hive morphing. And I say to myself …..oh….. geez I hope BP doesn’t come with wraiths this could be messy.

Apparently not one to use comsat, BP delays only as long as it takes to get his expansion rolling then comes with 12 rines 5 meds 2 tanks and 2 scv’s. *note to self: it’s good to look for stray and completely undefended hatches at the six o’clock position on rivalry* Upon approaching the min only expansion outside of Dis’s main BP sieges and builds bunkers and turrets. The Hydraling force Dis has is very ill equipped to deal with this push. And although lurkers are great containment they are allergic to arclight blasts. As the lurkers slowly retreat they buy the necessary time it takes to save Dis’s min only natural from BP. The five guardians hit the push like a ton of bricks. Just picture the statue of liberty vs. a street dog vendor. One interesting note is that BP has 0/1 rines to 0/0 buggers.

After the attack Dis throws down some sunkens and drops a defilers mound at the six o clock. Also stationing some hydras there for support. BP’s counter to guardians arrives and 3 wraiths leave his sole starport and go in to absolutely rape those guardians. Only 3 or 4 hydras were stationed Dis’s natural and by the time they killed all 3 wraiths the last wraith launched the death volley of Gemini wrath. Evening out the gas advantage a little *smirks* BP has also taken the opportunity to add a second starport and a science facility. Being a gambling man BP also takes a naked expansion at the 12 o’clock.

While BP has been brazenly beginning an expansion into the zerg map. [being a zerg man I believe in everyone’s favorite family game show "bottle the terran" where u proceed to seal the top of the bottle then shake real hard till all those little rines fall out in little pieces] Dis hasn’t been idle during this time, a large force of cracks accompanied with defilers are heading upwards towards the 9 o’clock expansion. *note to self: scout the damn map if Dis went with his first few lings he had the entire 12 o’clock with almost no losses. Oh and harder bugs last longer than soft bugs [still no upgrades for the zerg]* BP being brazen again takes the top left start with a huge and massive terran death squad…….one scv builds a com center. At this point I get upset because there is apparently no recon for either team. Massed lings take up a good amount of room and 2 count-em 2 naked expansions in the path of attack for Dis. BP begins another tank push rallied from his natural. He then proceeds towards his 12 o clock to change the angle of attack and come from above. He stalls at his 12 o clock and unfortunately ½ of Dis’s lings decide to attack a tank push. While the defilers walk along-side them, the second half sits back and watches the action. They must have thought it was one of those new action movies made just for television. U know the shitty kind with no point that just waste your time…..hehe….btw the tank push won. Then the rest of the lings decide to attack too. Yah I think they were drunk. Dis comes on the loud speaker a moment later….I tried to darkswarm like 1000000000 times. Hehe can we say research it!!!!! *note to self: either learn ur hotkeys or watch ur troops…luv ya Dis* oh and the bugs still are soft.

Seeing that the terran actually has tanks and M&M’s Dis figures that walking troops into his general direction will not work as well as he thought. Dis then adds the dreaded and nil used Ultra hotel. Also he builds an evolution chamber. *and there was much rejoicing* Finding the 12 o clock Dis opts to hydra drop it. I believe 20 hydras unload out of 5 glowing olords courtesy of BP’s new fleet of science vessels. About the same time of the drop, BP has begun setting up a push towards Dis’s main from directly above. The tank push can’t be recalled and those hydras rape BP’s OPEN expansion.

They proceed to engage forces pouring out of his main and natural and get crushed. But the damage was done…….distinct open real estate in the 12 o clock. The only structure left was BP’s burning starport. Now while I have been reporting on how BP’s has been expanding all game Dis has not been idle. Around this time it seems that he has enough drones to be considered saturated on his first and second expansions. but no new map for the creep to claim. The tank push then continues on Dis’s main 1/2 rines lead a push that comes fully equipped with science vessels, wraiths, and those damn tanks. All yours for only 19.95. BP has reinforced his push with small firebases of marines in the middle of the map. These two fairly large groups of rines are intended to attack from the back during his tank push. Using wraiths and scivessles the lurkers get forced back. and onward brave legion. About this time I first notice a sizeable group of hydra and ultras with some cracks for flavor. And Dis has gained 0/1 bugs!!! Whooaa. . With no limit to the ballsyness of BP he expanded to the 9 o’clock position right behind his push and took advantage of map control to retake the 12 o clock. Then the push engages with the troops in Dis’s natural. At first it looks like the terrans will slaughter the zerg even with 0/4 ultras leading the push, mainly because the bridge forces the bugs to travel through a death zone on the bridge where tanks just dump on them. The biggest problem was when hydras got in front of the ultras, call it poor planning or bad luck, but 5 hydras at a time don’t stop a push, and ultras look scary but they can’t stare down a tank. Rines maybe, not tanks.

In the end sheer force does overcome the push, although at a great cost. The first marine firebase came calling once the push crumbled and was stopped by what little reserves were left in Dis’s natural. Once the second firebase arrives it eliminates what little resistance was left in Dis’s natural this forces the temporary recall of the zerg attack forces, which were streaming up the left side of the map. Once the remnants of the push are finally halted the zerg resume the charge.

Blitzkrieg!!! Zerg forces rush up the left side of the map reclaiming lost lands as they go, the top left expansion has a huge death force, about 30 scv’s equipped with a command center and refinery. Being scared of this force the ultras go in very carefully after a long pause at the top left natural while waiting for hydras. About this time the zerg troops begin to become true bugs [0/2 upgrades] Dis still has chosen not to expand again. Once reinforcements arrive the ultras launch on a scouting mission. *for the record this is not like one of my scouting missions where I exploit some mistake, Dis had no clue what was there and the ultras were looking to see what type of defense was set* Sadly all the mighty scv’s were getting they groove on when the ultras came in and hence we pour the liquor. Once the scouting mission was completed the zerg troops surge up to the top left and establish a presence there. Sad, but with anger in their hearts, terran reinforcements [2/3 rines amongst tanks, wraiths, and vessels] run to the aid of the 12 o clock position, not noticing any problems there they continue towards the funeral site, lookin for bugs. Finding them sitting in the top left getting fat off the bones of their fallen comrades enrages the terran commandos. Sieging up below the top left position the tank push, err science vessel push irradiates, err eradicates the remaining ultras and hydras.

In disbelief the overmind submits and the loudspeaker comes on again………I have no counters for that. In the state of shock it took a couple of times to spell counters, but we knew what was up. This game may seem a bit one sided, but it was a very good game, exciting on both ends. Some interesting final stats, although he was massively out expanded at the starting gate BP won with a slight resource advantage, and finished with 3 factories, 5 starports and 7 rax. When he expanded BP maynarded nearly every time. Word 97 pro edition really needs an update that included maynard in the spell check.
