Journal of Luke Dukewalker

Entry 1:
After pissing my Uncle Owen off to the point of no return by driving my souped up landspeeder into the only lake on my home planet, it was time for me to leave home and join the Terran Rebellion against Kerrigan.

My first assignment in the Terran Rebellion Forces was to land with a Command Center on an ancient Zel Naga world and operate a Space Construction Vehicle. Our Commander, Yuri LeModel, was a former special operative with psychic ability, and the men respected him greatly. We landed on a strategic plateau in the southeast of the mineral rich territory and started to mine. Almost immediately, the commander detected a zerg infestation beginning across the valley on the northwest plateau. Being a Dukewalker though, I took the news bravely.

Entry 2:
Commander Yuri spoke with me about the dangers of lurkers, and told me that he needed my help to scout the enemy. Armed only with macrobinoculars, my mineral cutter, and my SCV armored shell, I set off for the zerg infestation. I checked for early expansions in the valley and in the southwest corner, but found none. The zerg base was strangely lacking. A hydralisk den had formed next to a spawning pool, but the hatchery was not morphing into a hive, and there was only one hatchery. I went to hide on the eastern cliffs of the plateau, hoping for a better look later.

Just as I settled in to watch though, four zerglings came tearing at me from the base... I accelerated away but had already been torn up somewhat from the claws. Yuri projected a silent psychic alarm to me -Run Luke, Run!-. Who was he kidding? I tried to convince the zerglings that I was just a harmless robot, but they would not listen.

They almost caught me at the path up to our base plateau when marine gauss fire put an end to their harrassment.

Entry 3:
From two bunkers, marines trained rapidly. Commander sent a few suicidal marines to the various expansion zones and discovered something very troubling. While we had been preparing the technology to construct turrets, train medics, and build tanks, the Zerg enemy had expanded early... to the mineral site just north of our plateau. Not only that, but his expansion was running at full steam, and we saw the tips of a Lair. We noted this on our map with the number 1. Another marine reported back that a new expansion was starting at the point on the map marked 2.

Good old Luke would have attacked the expansion at 2, but our commander was at his rank for a reason, and he ordered a seige on the expansion at 1. In the first of many bloody battles, 3 seige tanks perished to hydras from below and that scaled the ramp. Several marines were killed, but stimulants, and finally the use of a bunker and tower at the top of the choke point held the hydras off. Two new tanks rolled into place and started hammering at the lair.

I was assigned to repair the bunker as the hydras fired at it, but with the medic healing me, and me healing the bunker, many hydras died without accomplishing anything more. Dozens of drones and hydras died, and we were eventually able to take that site for ourselves.

Marines reported destroying a spire, and that we should expect the zerg to take an air strategy. The commander assigned me to inspect minor damage on a few science vessels that were in the air, and ordered the production of more.

Entry 4:
Good news! Commander Yuri decided to reward my service with a tryout to become a special operative, and I passed the psychic test! The SCV was shed for a Ghost uniform. More babes! More money! Cooler weapons!

Commander tempered my mood by telling me that ghosts craved not adveture or excitement, and that there was no try... what a downer.

Entry 5:
Comstat discovered a vital flaw in the design of the zerg defenses. A group of overlords was huddled to the east of the main zerg camp. They were protected from an all out assault, but might be vulnerable to our smaller, faster moving science vessels.

Yuri ordered five science vessels to dispatch and irradiate the overlords, hopefully doing enough overlap damage to kill most of them. As you can see, it worked.

Entry 6:
The zerg commander had been testing various points on our front with a group of mutas. We had marines and medics everywhere though, pumping from 4 barracks. Both sides had two and a half expansions, counting the small mineral sites at the ends of each plateau, but we were killing them more efficiently. Commander Yuri, concerned for the safety of his forces, was upgrading their equipment at the engineering bay. Stimulants and range had long since been researched at the academy, and our boys were down to business in a fight.

Our home base was never left without a bunker/tower/tank defense, and a group of 10 marines, 2 medics and a tower watched a likely dropzone at the southern edge of our plateau.

A small skirmish at the middle of the map distracted Commander Yuri while a full control group of Mutas, maybe more, attacked the protected drop zone. Without orders to use stimulants, the marines perished horribly, and it was one of the bloodiest days of the war for us. The zerg had brought the fight to our main base and the bugs would have to pay.

Our science vessels and duo of valkries retaliated just as a large group of scourge appeared on the horizon. One of the science vessel admirals reported, “It's a trap!”

Fortunately, our vessels were fleet of foot and managed to retreat north, over the protection of more marines and towers. Marines were ordered in to drive off the scourge.

Meanwhile, the cunning zerg had infested his side of the middle of the valley with a new hatchery. Zerg may be cunning, but they are not smart, and this hatchery was exterminated by another force of tanks, marines and medics stationed on the old Protoss wall in the middle of the vally. You can see this spot marked, 4, on the map.

Entry 7:
Yuri LeModel remembered the advice he had studied in the battle reports of other terran commanders. Commanders like Ghost Lizard and Heartcutter never stopped producing or upgrading troops, and neither did Yuri.

We had several functioning starports and five functioning bunkers. I had been learning how to cloak and recently had surgery to increase my optic range. Several more ghost units were trained and the commander ordered a new Command Center built in the valley. We now had bases at the sites marked 1, 3, and 4 on the map, with nuclear missiles being readied at the 1 and 4 locations.

The zerg commander launched another bloody offensive at the drop site he had tested before. You remember? The site on the western portion of my main base plateau?

Mutas stormed in and cleared the landing area, and this time, there was a drop. Over two dozen hydras to be exact. The defense responded and marines, firebats, medics, valkries and science vessels met with mutas, scourge and hydralisks. The commander had made sure to consolidate our gains on the map however, and though we lost heavily at first, re-enforcements were soon ariving. Marines injected themselves with stimulant while valkries and science vessels did a number on the flying enemy. Several valkries crashed from the sky that day, but the victory was ours.

Slamming his fist as he spoke, the commander ordered me and the boys to counterstrike the zerg main with two tactical nuclear weapons. We could not have directly targetted the Hive, but we did plenty of damage so the marines that joined us could finish the zerg main off.

Entry 8:
I had time to do the nasty with one of the medics that flew to the zerg main with us. Hopefully, none of the boys heard her moaning, “Luke, Luke, use the force baby!” I really did not want to be reported and busted down to SCV again. Her name was Daisy Organa or something like that...

Entry 9:
Down, but not out, the zerg had evolved into adrenalings, or what we in the service like to call “Cracklings”.

Cracklings tested our defenses everywhere they could, and managed to kill a small number of jacked up marines and firebats.

The commander discovered another huddling of Overlords, and repeated his earlier Science Vessel strike. Everything was happening quickly now.

Our small contingent of soldiers traveled south with the vessels and another group of supporting marines. My fellow ghost, ChewBoduka, and I nuked the hell out of the base at the southern point of the zerg plateau.

Entry 10:
The zerg had hatcheries everywhere, and continued to test our forces with cracklings and hydras. I believe that the distruction of his hive prevented him from developing defilers, and without them, the cracklings died often before making their first swipe at a marine or firebat.

Two more nukes were finally ready, and I wanted to nuke the last mineral site of the zerg. Commander Yuri was wiser once again and ordered the strike on 5 overlords that were huddled over a hatchery.

I am cloaked, but the zerg spot me anyway. Those damn overlords could see me... Fortunately, Commander Yuri had studied the battle tactics of Johnny_Vegas and ordered defensive matrixes to be placed around ChewBoduka and I, just as the cracklings reached us. Marines killed the cracklings that tried to break down my shields, and medics healed the slight wounds that I was receiving....

Entry 11:
The zerg surrenders!!! The medic, Daisy Organa, had been promoted, and it was she that awarded me my medal of honor. Unfortunately, Yuri revealed to us that we were long lost twins at this point, and things became uncomfortably silent between Daisy and I from that day forward... Ugh.

Lessons Learned
Read battlereports. Especially ones from good players.

Post battlereports, especially if you are better than me. You could be a RoleModel to an up-and-coming player.

Never overextend with Terran, and if you use Zerg, USE SPELL CASTERS!

3 Way FFA Tourney
I may be obliged to visit relatives coming in from Toronto at some point next weekend, but I will have free time in there somewhere. I guess we need to try to find a time that is acceptable to myself, Mark4, Heartcutter, Dev, and a zerg player... of course, I live in Pennsylvania, and others may live in different time zones.

We need a zerg player to step up and volunteer to fight!
Pkt7:Thorn? You out there? Anyone wanna step up?

I hope you all enjoyed my latest report. I tried to put more effort into the writing and equal effort into the graphics.
