I was in nohunters at the time, and I heard this guy yapping about what a good game "4FFA Dire" is. Some cocky Davy named fool. I'd been needing a game for awhile and he had a few other people. We went into the game room, where he informs me you can watch. I then make it clear to them that "I like to watch." I jump into the obs spot, another guy arrives and the game is launched.
Davy~Crusader (yep thats the one) picked Terran and got Orange.
Bluemage~ tried his luck and wound up with Brown Terran.
Straz2 (a new defector from the BGH empire) chose Red Protoss.
Old~Reekar picked red Zerg.
I'll refer to them as their colors from now on, it'll just be easier that way. Clockwise from the north-east post they are: Orange, Brown, Yellow, Red.
Yellow Zergie sent his lord north and eventually found Red's pro town. Yellow built a 2nd hatch, extractor, 3rd hatch, and then a pool.
Red under the gaze of the mighty lord built pylon, gate, forge, assimilator, then cannons.
Brown made a depot, rax, and refinery, while his brother opponent orange went depot, refinery, and 2 barracks at once.
By now they were trading some threats and insults, but no one was making aggressive moves, or build orders for that matter.
Much later Orange had an academy, factory, starport, engineering with tanks and M&M.
Red seemed to be shooting for reavers by making a cybercore, 2 robos, support, observer.
Brown now had a factory, starport, academy, engineering bay. He had tanks, but not many marines or other combat units. Plus he was talking some serious trash.
Yellow upgraded both his lairs and a drone turned into a hydra den. He also must've had 30 Drones mining his minerals.
I don't exactly know what Orange had against Brown... By now attack forces were piling up. Brown expanded however. To the south central island. Orange then brought in about half a dozen dropships, out poured marines, medics, tanks, and Scvs. He did this on the north end of the island so that he could build up bunkers, turrets and set up a tank push.
While this is going on yellow loses a lord to the protoss dragoons, and he has 2 evolution chambers pumping upgrades.. Wordlessly he vows revenge. About 8 fully foul smelling overlords stuffed with delicious hyrdras advances up the western border of the map. He unloads the hyrdras right behind the minerals, but red has cannons there. A quick response from Zealots ends the threat. Yellow manages to return with most his lords.
Immediately after that a siege cannon squirts out a load on the other end of the board. Orange has bunkers, m&m, scvs, and everything blasting up Brown's main. While Brown manages to kill most of the tanks, the marines simply over power him. He flees to his expansion with starport, factory, barracks, and an extra CC (for good luck). Orange leaves his marines to scratch themselves on Brown's old farm. Then from the west comes overlords. Hydras fall from the sky onto Brown's expansion. Brown again has to flee. He makes it to the west center island above his old expansion. "I'm the only one who's been attacked!!!" He cries. He begins to compare this game to his life at school.
Yellow has now a new expansion directly above him, Red has one to the east of his main spot, and Orange decides to take the island to his south.
Red decides the BGH tactics might not work here, so he pulls a reaver into a dropship, and in seconds its on Yellow's expansion. Boom! A spore colony goes, but hyrdras fly in from his main, drop, and kill the reaver and the shuttle.
Red again makes an assault, but now he shuttles a pair of DTs into Oranges base. The DTs do little damage, and are turned into feed by a trio of tanks. Now Red's starting to piss some people off.
Orange takes his T&M&M army over to Red's mainland. Again he has a very long setup. When the tanks start firing about 9 Zealots come out of their teepees to see what's up. They are massacred by a gross amount of tanks and marines. Orange now begins a long slow process of clearing buildings.
A massive demand for expansion causes their capital to shoot thru the roof.
While they're busy, Brown has rebuilt his modest empire. His wraiths do a few hit-and-runs on the new Yellow Zerg infestation below him. A few minor skirmishes occur on the island to the east of Brown, with him and yellow again.
Yellow sensing the growing power of the Davy Force sends a large group of lords/hydras to the orange expansion in the far east. Orange shuttles in tanks to reinforce in the heat of the battle. Yellow eventually takes the island with use of defilers' dark swarm.
However, just as Yellow is basking in the glow of Zergliness, Brown M&M drops his southern expansion. He clears it out. More small fighting happens between Brown marines and yellow hyrdas on the east center long island.
By now Orange finally finished off Red's base. Yes, it took that long! Brown now is landing a cc at his new island, and turrets pop up. A small fleet of scourgeling fly over that site, and are killed. Now Yellow smiles as only a Zerg can smile. A Brown tank turns into 2 broodlings, and its raining hydras again! Yellow wins the island again, but barely. He has only 4 Hydras there, and a drone flies in and becomes a hatchery.
Orange Kills a stray 'lord, and takes Brown's old main city. More Small fighting happens on the east center island. Red beats off yellow hydras with massive amount of scouts. Did we forget about him...? Oh yeah, red has about 2 Dozen scouts, Arbiters coming, and about 50 Cannons all over his islands. Very Very BGHesque.
Immediately after that fight Brown again assaults yellow's southern expansion. His hatchery is nearly killed by marines until a couple Guardians drool all over them. Pissed at Brown's annoying tactics yellow starts lobbing Guardian spitballs at Brown's only island. Wraiths come to the rescue sort of. The Guards only kill so much, then back off.
By now Red has two fortress like islands. He is chugging the minerals down like drunk. Orange has the whole eastern area, and Yellow has 2 expansions on the south west end.
Orange begins to recognize that he can't simply let Yellow beging to dominate. Which he is doing at this stage. And Brown decides he needs to be more annoying than simply whining. Nearly simultaneously (brown ahead) both terrans drop down on Yellow's main. Brown's m&m get the short end of it, but ORange with his precision management beats up the distracted Zerg. Yellow attempts to save himself with hydras/darkswarm but to no avail. More hydras come out of their eggs and are turned into lunchmeats. Queens fly across and quickly 2 tanks are now 4 broodlings. Guardians are right behind. Orange brings wraiths up to the plate with Irradiate. The Guards are killed, and more hydras come in. Orange's assault team lies dead, but Yellow's main is nothing more than a hive and a defiler mound.
A long eerie silence passes. Brown attempts to take Red's old starting place, but Orange makes that impossible.
Many minutes later, Brown drops in an m&m with tanks on the side attack to finish off yellow's main. Cracklings pour in and the forces battle. During this time Yellow had a large air force on the verge of attacking Orange's expansion in the bottom east corner. That attack is called off however. He tries to save his hive by casting a dark swarm, except he gave room for the marines to run in, and they did. Instead of attacking the other hydras below the swarm he finishes the Hive off. His force dies bravely after that.
Right now red is sitting on a fleet of arbiters, templar, scouts, and carriers... waiting...
Yellow is furious now. He's getting doubled!!! That's not supposed to happen... he's Old~Reekar damnit! "I'll get those whippersnappers," he hopes. He attacks brown's only island with a shitload of hydras, guardians, devourers against a few wraiths, turrets, and some scared ass marines.
Meanwhile... Orange has set up tanks on the edge of his main island, they blast away at the foolish Red Protoss. Wraiths also do some hit-and-run assaults. Furious red attacks Orange's force with all his mighty fleet. Then, Suddenly, a group of FULLY upgraded Goliaths turns the fleet into puffs of smoke. Red runs with only a few ships left. ORange does the same to REd's other island.
Yellow has finished off Brown, but one factory ran away. It was all brown had. The little snake allied with Red, and hovered over his buildings. Yellow has taken Brown's last island for his own mining now. Plus, he sends a ORange a piece of his mind the only way a Zerg knows how. Guardians/Hydras pour into ORanges center east expansion. ORange tries to fight back with massive amounts of Goliaths and tanks, but he fails.
REd, with another massive fleet, and more spell use, decides to go for broke. He sends literally every unit he can to Orange's base. His attack fails, but he manages to destroy many many goliaths and tanks. AFter that the bored Protoss commander plays around with the quit buttons, and Brown disconnects.
Now Orange uses the same Tank tatic on Yellow's far west base. No minerals are left there, only tech buildings. Once he kills enough Spore colonies, he m&m drops it, and kills it. Orange seems to have the game now. Now Orange moves on to the south base, tanks it, drops it. Once again it had no minerals only tech buildings. Yellow massively fortifies his island. Yellow is down to One island, but there aren't many minerals left to mine anywhere else. He doesn't have much room left for tech buildings however. ORange again tries to tank the last island. Suddenly all 3 tanks are now 6 broodlings... again!
Now Begins a loooooooong sloooooow standoff. ORange needs more minerals and tries taking the few left on the empty islands. Yellow tries to expand as well, but is stopped by the evil terran empire. ORange now gets nukes, seeing how many queens there are. He takes a ghost and under a huge stack of SVs, he squeezes off a li'l nuke. It's damage isn't sufficient though. He also builds one BC, but it accomplishes next to nothing. He then tries irradiating and Dmatrixing his own SVs, runs in, and they kill about 6 hydras before dieing. He tries to m&m drop the island but they are killed. ORange is getting impatient now... and asks for a stalemate... a sign of him now losing perhaps?
He tries to expand again in Red's starting posistion, 8 cracklings force him to liftoff. Then the lings are chased off by a wraith. Orange solidifies that expansion now. Yellow is amassing lings, scourge and queens on his little crowded island.
Another loooooong standoff begins. ORange takes the final mineral chunk. There is nothing left to mine!!!
Yellow drops hydras/lings on the far east expansion again, he destroys the nukes silo and chases off the CC.
Yellow now gets hope he can win. With his army of queens he begins taking out the goliath army. Orange's BC falls. ORange declares he has no money left. He disconnects about 5 minutes later. (Was map settings however so I doubt it was intentional.)
Whew that was long... and my first to. I hope you enjoyed me, i know I have...
Oh yeah moral of the story is...
Kingmaker's make the FFA, yes FFA can be the funnest game, but the are often very unfair. Not to say you shouldn't play them. I believe if red didn't mash orange's tanks/gols at his main he could have won. Orange SHOULD have won anyway. IT was a weird game and really doesn't deserve to have morals or lessons applied to it. | | Battle Shots! |
