NewbieMcNasty Vs. [fe]Kill.on.486

Introducion:

I was checking out the br.com forum yesterday and I saw that Killer.on.486's name has once again surfaced in the news. It would appear that he is once again trying to make a name for himself. He has improved his skills by joining the "mighty" [FE] clan and he's once again ready to start throwing some challenges around.

Well since his name has surfaced, I thought there might be enough public interest for me to throw up a quick report on a game that I watched him play today. I know it's just another protoss vs. terran game on temple, but killer used a few interesting strats that I just can't resist reporting.

So let's get to it...

The Game:

Those of you who know NewbieMcNasty know that he's a straight up terran player. Before the game began, Killer warned Newbie about claiming imbalance if his protoss prevailed. Newbie responded by saying he actually had a harder time beating a good zerg player.

The game began with Killer drawing the 6:00 position. Newbie drew the 9:00 spot.

Newbie started out the game with a depot, barrack, refinery, factory build. He elects to forgo the wall-in and builds all his structures in his base.

Killer's build starts out with a pylon, a gateway, and an assimilator. At this point I'm thinking Killer is going to try some goon containment. However, instead of building a cy core and then a 2nd gate, he builds a second gate and then a forge.

If Newbie was playing as Zerg, I would say that Killer was going for a hard zealot rush, with a +1 weapons upgrade to combat lings. But Newbie was terran.

Killer did have his scouting probe in Newbie's base and he may have planned to try some sort of cheese cannon trick, but Newbie found the probe with his marines and blew it away. Killer responded to this with a resounding...
Killer: GRRRRRRRRRR

Newbie had built an academy and worked on producing troops out of his 1 barrack and 1 factory. When he had a total of 3 vultures with mines, 6 marines, 1 firebat, and 1 medic he moved out towards Killer's base. His troops were escorted by 2 SCVs.

By this time, Killer had warped in a cy core. He had sent a probe down to the outside of his natural expansion and used it to construct a pylon and 2 cannons there. He also sent a probe over to the top right corner of his plateau to the spot above where his cannons were warping and warped in a pylon. He then began constructing his tech buildings there starting with a robotics facility.

It was at this time that Newbie's troops arrived outside of Killer's natural. He sent his vultures in to scout but quickly retreated when Killer's cannons started firing on him. He then used his SCV to begin constructing a bunker outside of cannon range and laid down some mines.

At this point, Killer's mobile forces consisted of 2 zealots and 2 dragoons. He brought the dragoons out to investigate and saw the SCV contstructing the bunker. He immediately focused fire on the SCV and was able to destroy it before his goons were turned to blue mush.

Newbie was nonplussed by this turn of events however, and he quickly moved his 2nd SCV over and continued construction of the bunker.

Back at home, Newbie had completed an Engineering Bay and as soon as work on the bunker was completed, his SCV began building a turret.

On the cliff above the skirmishes outside his natural, Killer continued to warp in tech buildings next to the lone pylon. A citadel of adun was his next tech building of choice.

As Newbie worked on the turret outside of Killer's natural, Killer once again tried to break through the containment. This time with a force of 2 goons and 2 zealots. His attack was a complete failure and was ended quickly by the bunker and some well placed mines.

As Killer retreated his remaining zealot behind cannon cover, 2 tanks arrived from Newbie's base and seiged up. They started raining fire down on the cannons, not realizing that all of Killer's tech buildings are on the cliff above him well within tank range.

Back at his base, Newbie had lifted off his engineering bay and was floating it over to where his troops waited. He also began construction on a second factory.

Killer continued his stubborn resolve to build his tech buildings in tank range by warping in a templar archive next to his robotic facility and his citadel.

Down in the valley, Newbie had supplemented his containment force by building a second bunker. Killer sent a couple of dragoons out to test the containment and they were quickly dispatched.

It was at this time, that Newbie's engineering bay that had been floating towards Newbie's containment force, flew over the edge of Killer's plateau. As soon as the ebay came within sight range of all those tech buildings sitting on the edge of the cliff, tank fire began to rain down on them. A third tank joined the 2 already seiged and a continuous shelling of Killer's tech buildings began.

Killer tried one more time to break the containment by sending 6 goons, 2 zealots, and 2 dts at Newbie's 4 tanks and 2 bunkers. The attack was futile. Newbie's terran force was more than enough to handle Killer's incoming troops and they were eliminated. Newbie only lost 2 tanks.

Once the forces were eliminated, Newbie returns to the shelling of Killer's tech buildings.

With all his tech buildings destroyed, and an inevitable tank push on his base coming, Killer leaves the game saying...
Killer: gg, I screwed up

Yes Killer, I think you did... ;-)

The Scores:

Well, I don't usually do this but...

Lessons Learned:

  1. If you're toss and you're gonna tech, don't jack around. Get the cy core up quick. Otherwise, its a waste of time to go early gas.
  2. Don't build all your tech buildings next to a terran containment force. Even if there is a cliff there. Remember, tanks can shoot over cliffs. (duh you say?)
  3. If you're playing against Killer, you'll probably win... ;-)

Well, another notch on Newbie's terran belt. Maybe I'll let Killer kick my ass in a game. That should make him feel better after reading this report. :-)

Cheers,
Drefsab
