| How No Expansion can beat an Early Expansion | | | Author: | | | IP: | 88.morriXXXX | | Date: | 03/06/00 02:03 | | Game Type: | Starcraft | | Labels: | none | | Report Rating: , # of Ratings: 1, Max: 6, Min: 6 Lifetime Rating for [hA]Raziel: 6.0000 | | This is my first BR ever so i hope this isn't bad. No pictures, but a story of a game.
I was looking for a ladder game, my rating was 978, and i wanted to get above 1000 again with this game. So i joined a 1000++++ game. And of course, the person thought that he could easily beat me. Being that he is all the way up to 1009. We both end up randoming in Lost Temple and i get Terran. I didn't know what he got until later so i will tell you when my scouting mission ended. I started off by buildling SCV's and then one came out that caught my eye. Whether it was the fact that he wasn't picking his nose or that he was so eager to build. He told me his name was Max, and then he went off to build a supply depot (8 SCV) at the choke. He started building as i went to 10 SCV's to build a barracks at the choke. Once Supply Depot is finished Max tells me that he wants to go and scout the right upper base. So i let him go and amazingly he runs into creep. He looks around and sees only drones. Max, being the genious that he is then goes to that zerg players natural expansino. And Low and behold, he found a hatchery warping in at 400 hit points. He decided to be a hero and started attacking the hatchery.
Back home i had a strong mineral econonmy, a second supply depot finishing up and a second barracks starting. I figured that if i could get a few marines fast enough that i could take out his expansion. Back at The hero, Max's home, he was being attacked by 7 drones. So he ran and the drones followed, but he ran some more and the drones went back to mining. Max was at 5 health, but he continued to fight on. He decided to take another look at the main, but was killed by a drone which sat at the choke waiting for Max to come back. By then at home, i had 2 marines and my second barracks was finishing up. I had started vespene and was buildling 2 more SCV's to mine it. Once 4 marines came out and were sitting at the choke. They were all talking about who was with the medic which night and who did more with her. I am not sure who won. But one of them looked a lot better than the other so i assumed that it was him. Those four marines were dispatched to kill his expansion hatchery. They listened, but they were kill by a group of 10 zerglings.
Luckily one special SCV had been told to build an academy so he was on his merry way buildling. I had about 6 marines, but i knew he had way more zerglings so i held back. The academy finished and i started a factory, firebats, comsat, and medics. I built up my infantry and once my comsat finished i scanned his main to see that he had strong economy going there but no defenses there. Once my factory was done my Builder went to work on a starport while another kept up with my constant need of supplies. My comsat reached 50 again and then i scanned his expansion. That is when i got hurt.
He had extremely good economies on both places, while i had about 12 SCV's on minerals at my main and 3 on vespene. I was continuing on infantry and i started a machine shop and control tower at the same time. Once they finished i did nothing with the machine shop until later. The control tower, being useful allowed me to build a dropship. And my comsat saw that he still had no defenses on his main mineral line. So once the dropship came out i loaded up 2 bats/4 marines/ 2 medics. It was flying around and ran across a stray drone that he was trying to expand with. I took note of this and pumped out another SCV which i was told that he was Max Jr. I guess Max was the real medic man. I started an engineering bay in my fear of lurkers, but i knew that he hadn't teched far. My drop went from behind and took out most of his mineral line and a few stray hydralisks and zerglings. It couldn't kill main hatch so i was dissapointed. And so were the marines that didn't have time to make out with the medic in the dropship.
I needed that dropship so i ran it away but it suffered severe damage at the hands of some hydralisks that were positioned in a very lucky spot. It was down on health, but i knew that i had an advantage. Next, i got together three dropships. I knew that i had to stop his intake of minerals to win. So i got the same drop as i had last time in 1. 2 tanks in dropship 2. And 4 marines and 1 scv in dropship 3. Dropship 1 finished the job it started in the main adn was able to take out the main hatchery. Dropships 2 and 3 went to the cliff behind his expansion. Max Jr. was the SCV chosen and keeping the name alive quickly finished a bunker and a missile turret. He was devastated. Without any hatcheries mining at all he had to reproduce. But that was hard to kill of my drop at his main. It took him about 12 hydralisks and he lost about 10 to take out my main drop. My tanks stayed sieged on his ledge forever.
Back home,i had two more dropships and loaded up 2 tanks and a bunch of infantry. They were talking along the way and they all decided to go and drop on his expansion to upper mid. And luckily the hatchery had just morphed in. The infantry and tanks made quick work of it. I reloaded and headed right towards his main base. I tried to avoid hydralisk trouble so i went from the side instead of from the back. The two tanks sieged and the infantry made quick work of the hydralisk resistance. He said, "GG" and the left. Max Jr. up on that ledge did his own little victory dance, and that is the story of how no expansion beat the early expansion. The odd part about this game was that i was never attacked.
The final unit stats included the stats that i killed off 75 of his units while i only lost 18 of them. I won this game, but i wonder... How could the guy i faced gotten above 1000. He sucked.
Notes:
-Some people don't learn that marines/bats/medics own zerglings
-The same people don't learn to send more than 2 hydralisks at once at your marines/bats/medics.
-Minerals isn't the key to the game. It is all about the micro. And my opponent didn't use that at all.
-SCV's named Max seem to always be heroic.
