Battle of Wills part Two

Just to bring you up to speed, this is the 3rd game in a series of three between ::nobody:: and WilliamWC3. Nobs is smurfing as "WilliamWD40." Of the previous two games, Will won the first by anally raping Nobs, and Nobs won the second by forcefully gerbilling Will. The third game promises to be interesting; it takes place on Showdown.

GAME 3

WilliamWC3

– Yellow Terran, 12:00

WilliamWD40

– Orange Protoss, 6:00

Both players in this game opt to tech rather than mass basic units.

WC3 constructs a factory after his first barracks, and his scout , Neon Sanders, discovers one gate and one cy core plus gas. About as symmetric builds as Toss and Terran can be, I reckon. Neon doesn’t have much time to ponder the matter, though, as he is cornered by an irate probe and a restless zealot, and he doesn’t have the dance moves to escape. Ouch. Sucks to be him.

WC3

continues by putting up an engineering bay (watching out for those rascally dark templar) while WD40 goes for the robotics tech branch and adds a gateway. He also warps in a forge at this time, presumably to upgrade shields or some such. WC3’s base defense is getting pretty solid at this point: bunker, turret, tanks on the way. No cheese DT rush will own him THIS game. He also erects a starport and extra factory at the back of his base as WD40 gets himself an observatory.

At this point,

WD40 does something rather odd: he sends a lone zealot on a trek towards the Terran base. Sending a probe or observer would be much more typical; surely nobs doesn’t expect one zealot to own a paragon of gosu-ity like WC3? Hm. At the same time, I hear the "hiss" of a shuttle loading up a few units. The shuttle flies to an island expansion, drops off a probe (who, predictably, begins a nexus)… and continues north. What’s this?

The zealot wanders into the base, and is promptly pelted with Arclite and bunker fire. At the same time, though, the shuttle glides noiselessly around the left side of the

Terran base… and heads undetected for the plateau! It seems that WC3 was too distracted by the zealot to spot this little maneuver. The only question is, what’s in the shuttle?

Two zealots and a probe. Rather strange to send melee units to your opponent’s ledge. Oh, no. Wait… NO. He WOULDN’T.

Now, just as this ultimate bit of gayness is transpiring, a yellow dropship is landing on

WD40’s plateau. The somewhat more standard turret (to be followed, one would imagine, by bunker and tank) is begun, but chased off quickly (thanks to a wandering observer) by a drop of two zealots and a goon. Fortunately, the effort is not entirely wasted, as the dropship discovers the naked Protoss island expansion on its return trip, and promptly drops the turbochobo force to dispose of it.

And just as

WC3 is thinking he’s pretty slick, the cannons on his ledge warp in, and reality hits him like a wet trout in the face. The starport takes a bit of damage and the SCVs are pelted with cannon fire before they scurry out of harm’s way. Perturbed but not licked, WC3 lifts off the starport, sieges a tank next to the command center, and uses the floating building to sight for the tank, which promptly clears the ledge of the annoying Protoss buildings.

As this is going on,

WD40’s island expansion is still being torn down, and WC3 is attempting to expand to his own island. Shuttled goons put an end to that, and both players are stuck with their mains for now.

WC3

decides to make sure that there’s nothing lurking up on that ledge to cause him any further trouble, and he drops a couple of tanks. He is unpleasantly surprised by the two zealots hiding in the corner (remember them?), which give the tanks quite a run for their money before being destroyed.

It turns out that during all this,

WD40 has been massing troops, and he now marches them up to the Terran main, preparing to deliver a crippling blow. Zealots and goons start congregating outside the base as dark templar run to catch up. It seems that WC3 will be a tough nut to crack, though; his tanks are hidden behind his buildings, and as further fortification, he has dropped some personnel on the plateau in the center. Dark templar spot the dropship and catch wind of this, not that it matters much at this point…

The zealots charge into the base, having grown impatient waiting for their blurry brethren. And they storm the defenses, taking down the tanks with a minimum of fuss before tearing the bunker open and disemboweling the marines that cower within. With no expansions, it looks like

WC3 is out of the game. The dark templar arrive just in time to slaughter a few terrified SCVs, and tear apart a spare command center that WC3 had been hoping to make an expansion out of.

WC3

tries to stay in the game by floating his starport and a factory up to his ledge, but dropped goons take care of that nuisance… he tries to build turrets at his little outpost on the center plateau so he can make a decent last stand, but realizes too late that he no longer has the required engineering bay, and he is eliminated.

GAME THREE VICTOR:

WilliamWD40!!!

(offensive cannoning. I need not say more.)

The final scores of the final game, just to provide that sense of closure:

And thus concludes the series. A few notes before I sign off:

  1. Either of these players could kick my ass in SC. A lot of gayness might have been flying about, but it’s still more than I could aspire to.
  2. If b.net vernacular offends you…. Hm, I was going to apologize for my use of it, but why are you at this site, anyway?
  3. [e]KeN should be the patron saint of BR writers everywhere. Last week, I joined a game he had created, hoping to obs, and some buttmonkey started screaming about how he didn’t like "watchers," and "he goes or I go." Ken chose to get rid of the buttmonkey, whereas most would certainly have brushed off the paparazzi without a second thought. We salute you, Ken.
  4. ::nobody:: beat jigga` (reigning King of the Hill) with his gosu mass crackling strategy the next day, adding only a few hydralisks into the mix to chase off corsairs. Lings are clearly underused.
  5. I was not, in fact, drinking malt liquor as I wrote this BR, despite what some of the pics might look like.
  6. WordArt > all.
  7. So do leprechauns and other small creatures.
