| Terran vs Toss on temple. Me vs Necrosausage | | | Author: | | | IP: | XXXX | | Date: | 06/11/99 07:06 | | Game Type: | Starcraft | | Labels: | Starcraft(1), Text Only(1) | | Report Rating: , # of Ratings: 3, Max: 8, Min: 6 Lifetime Rating for Omnipresent: 7.7000 | | This is my first battlereport, so I have no clue how good it will sound.
Prelude:
To put it simple, most toss players have always owned my terran game, and as of late I have been striving to change that somewhat. Whence did this striving start? Probably when Mark4 owned me so badly with his dt rush I felt like crushing my keyboard and melting the pieces to little piles of gooey plastic. I asked Mark4 how he would counter this, and he said that I should tech faster. Asking Johnny_vegas the same question, he said that he once took out a dt rusher just as the dts emerged with 2 firebats, 4 marines, and a medic. So, inspired by those words enough to make a new build order of my own, I decided to get another game going with Necrosausage!, who has never lost to a terran before with his strats.
Positions:
{DL}Omnipresent, terran 12:00 (Stupid temple gave me bad start ;/)
Necrosausage!, Protoss 6:00
Early game:
I came up with a new build order and tested it on stormwolf, who was a good dt rusher, and it worked rather well, so that I decided to use it again but modified. I made a depot on 8, rax on 10, gas on 11, and so forth. When the rax was done, I started an academy and soon after another rax and a depot while placing a 2nd guy on gas (I'm not shooting for really high gas yet so only 2). Sure enough, our scouts find each other rather quickly and I see him up to his cyber core already while he finds me making an academy.
Once I built up a force of 4 firebats and 2 marines, reinforced later by 2 more firebats, I assaulted Necrosausage! and found him to be quicker than stormwolf was. Upon entering the ramp to his base I met the near-invisible aura of a dark templar and the swing of his warp blades was heard as one of my firebats nearly fell. Though I had two comsats, Necro danced around and barely managed to save the dt.
Back at home I had constructed an ebay and factory simultaneously while producing marines and adding a turret to my choke point. Sure enough, the dt arrived and my marines found a playmate for a few seconds. I then planned a drop on Necro's high ground as I had expected him to expand early while also making adaquate defenses against a drop on my main with two tanks, a bunker, and a turret. Suddenly I noticed the light blue circle of a warp beacon attempting to materialize near my base. Sending 12 marines at it, I met the opposition in the form of a dt, high temp, and a zealot, but the templar was not ready to cast storm and through the help of a comsat and an armor upgrade vs the dt, the force was defeated.
Mid Game:
Soon, my dropship was off, carrying the standard cliff-drop payload of 3 rines, an scv, and a tank. I ordered the scv to produce a turret and soon after a bunker while telling the tank to enter siege mode. As I had guessed, he had made a very quick expansion and my drop threw him into a state of panic. Unfortunately when I looked at my screen I found my dropship had discovered a fire base attempting to contain me while en route to its destination, and with no significant attack force I decided to hold back.
Necro then wanted to pay me a visit in thanks for the party back at his exp. A shuttle came by, dropping a templar and then a dt. The sound of arclite fire mixed with the cry of a fallen templar removed the threat of a storm on my peon line. Quickly after, the dt dispatched one of my tanks and fell when he entered the range of my bunker. Necro, still angered by the loss of his templar brothers, launched a full-scale assault on my main line, and I was glad i set rally points for my choke. Somehow the rally points spread my marines out significantly so that the multiple storms cast only wiped out a portion of my marine army. Though I had tried to expand earlier and failed, I figured these losses would distract the now paniced Necro, who repeatedly asked if I was winning. (He had never lost to a terran, remember)Because of this I expanded twice; once on the top left island and once on my natural. I also noticed Necro had expanded to the 3:00 main, as I had left my scouting scv there for some odd reason I can't remember ;D.
Late Game:
This is the part where my terran inadequacy shines. With the help of a dt and high temp, the siege tank placed above necro's exp was destroyed, and soon after he dropped a dragoon there to destroy the turret. Thanks to the new dragoon range, my bunker could not respond, and I couldnt unload them and attack as a high templar waited nearby. Though I tried to reinforce the area I was too late, and soon he began mining again.
Another heavy assault came at my main, this time with the help of a disruption web from a corsair.("Uh oh" quickly rang off in my mind) The attack was barely fended off, so I decided to make another rax for faster marine production and so that I could make ghosts with my new sci facility.
Meanwhile a corsair found my island exp, and though I produced a barracks and a turret, my slowness to finish the defense allowed a lone dt to disrupt everything there and I floated my cc to my mineral-only natural. Back at home my main had run out so I transferred the scvs over to my natural and I noticed i had about 1.5k excess gas. It was ghost time ;->.
Yet another assault came at my main, and only with the help of ghosts it was fended off. The corsair that webbed me was still there, so as an act of vengeance I locked it down and sent a few marines to destroy it. Suddenly a carrier emerged. I locked it down too before it wrecked much havoc. Storm greeted me unfortunately, and I was forced to lock the carrier down yet again before I finished it off. Interceptors then flew out at my natural, forcing me to lock that carrier down as well. Barely in range, my marines managed to start hosing the carrier down with gauss rifles before storm annihilated them. I forgot all about my science vessels!
I had only made one and researched irradiate. All the while thinking "DIE TEMPLAR DIE!!!!," I irradiated two of them, though not before they got a few choice spells of their own on my peon line. With some more reinforcements I finally finished off the carrier, but things really went downhill for me from there. Repeated assaults on my choke finally gave way. Knocking at my door were then a fleet of 6 or so carriers with 2/1/1 upgrades. The rest was all clean-up, and we said our gg's.
Aftermath: Necro and I both agreed I did rather well compared to normal. I usually get slaughtered by Necro without even expanding, but at least this time the game lasted a while ^_~. I still wonder what I would do if I didn't have that cliff advantage to use. With dt containment, how is one really suposed to assault a protoss expansion? Ah well. With more games and more practice, one day I might win for once ;). (One can dream, can't he?)
Lessons learned:
1. Storm owns everything. DIE TEMPLAR DIE!!!!!!
2. Terrans require extreme levels of micro in the late game, and that's basically why I did so poorly in the end. I think almost everyone on bnet could use practice in the late game with terran. I certainly do ;/.
3. Bunkers are a necessary terran building and I need to learn to use them more. As zerg and as toss I can survive easily without the use of defensive structures with the exception of peon-line defense. Terrans, however, are a different story.
4. Terrans must employ a wide variety of troops, something I lacked in that game. When the final assault came, I had over 1k of minerals and gas extra that I just wasn't spending. This was in part due to the fact that I was so busy microing lockdowns and on the fact that I relied only on marines, tanks, and ghosts.
5. Medics aren't so hot vs toss. By not using medics at all, I got a lot farther than normal. Against toss, medics should only be used in the early game at low tech.
6. My terrans SUX :P.
I didn't get any pictures because I was too busy trying not to die ;-<. Well, that failed too, but oh well ;P.
