This is my first attempt at fiction in a very long time so if it sucks...blame it on the Afgans. Might as well go with the flow eh? :)

A dark swirl of colors surrounded him, as if he was caught in the middle of a tornado, and all his eyes could witness was the havoc cloud of dirt and wind. He eventually began to catch fleeting glimpses of recognition in the chaos. A hunk of gnarled root here, a form like a hanging branch there. It was as if he were falling headlong through a twilight jungle, but in the wrong direction.

Clarity began to come to him but with it, an even greater sense of confusion. He could see on either side of him and above as well as the front, and behind him, a type of peripheral of that. It was like looking through a convex lense, the center is normal vision, but the edges are distorted.

He finally began to get his bearings. Then he became conscious of a feeling, deep inside him. A sort of...burning. It felt at the same time to be completely wrong, but was also totally right. A seething power that was like the fire from a volcano. Waiting, burning, growing. It was trying to force its way to the surface, but a weight just as unbearable as its fire was forcing it down.

As he was pondering this new insight, he realized that something from outside of himself was drawing him to it, a sort of darkness, and the form he was in steered toward it. Suddenly a path appeared before them, but it was unlike any path he had seen before. The ground was soft, only recently trodden on by many feet. But the forest itself seemed to have pulled itself away from the presence of whatever had walked there. The bushes on the edge of the path seemed to have begun to wither away too, as if they had been without sunlight for many days, but everything beyond that was lushly alive.

Then he became aware of the strangest thing. While moving through the forest there was a soft, comforting glow about everything he passed. From a light incandescence of the shrubs at his feet, to a warm light of the great trees. But this...path, seemed devoid of that. The plants all around it had lost their shine, and the mere continuing presence of this...scar, seemed to continue to suck it out of them.

All of these thoughts went through his head in the few seconds it took for the entity he was in to stop, and glance at the ground of the path. Then his form began to move like the wind along the path. The darkness that was drawing them was directly in front, and the fire within himself seemed to be growing. Then as if a channel had been open from a dam, the fire began to seep into his very being.

What he noticed now was that in each hand he carried a blade unlike any weapon he had seen forged before. They were actually comprised of two blades each, joined at the thick end with an ornate hand guard. They began to glow with a feint green light that slowly grew as he came closer to the darkness before him.

The ground began to slope downward now, and the tops of the trees began to part. He saw that he was entering a river valley with the winding waters stretching out directly before him. The ground began to level out and the trees started to thin, giving him quick glimpses of the fast moving waters.

Finally the trees ended and the river was before him, with lush grass swaying in the wind on either bank of the river. But directly in front of him, seemingly on the trail of death itself, the grass was withered and pounded into the earth.. Then he saw them. Hideous monstrosities that couldn't even be compared to the most bloodthirsty of orcs. He must have still been a good half mile away, but he could see them with a horrifying clarity. Pieces of rotted flesh dangling from one, another carrying a still moving arm. Some seemed to be made up of a random assortment of parts, with huge arms sticking out in random directions with each arm carrying a malicious looking cleaver or bloodstained hooks and chains. Surrounding these were walking skeletons and hunchbacked corpses with sharp, sinister-looking claws.

The blades at his sides glared ferociously with their green light, and he raised them as his body rushed forward. When he was a few hundred feet away, one of the creatures spotted him, and let out a shriek of anger, making the others turn towards him. In that instant, the power holding the flame within him let go. He felt as if an unquenchable fire coursing through his veins and he leaped upon one of the massive creatures with a cry of pain, grief, and an undying hatred.

The world flashed before his eyes and he suddenly sat bolt upright in pitch blackness, covered in a cold sweat. What he had just witness flashed through his mind until he regained his wits and recognized that he was in his room. He slowly laid back down and tried to fall back into sleep.
