Note: This story is the first chapter. It's the first one I have written. I have posted this story before, but not here. I was hoping if I got this story to a larger audience I could get a lot more feedback. If people like it enough, I might be tempted to write the rest of it. I don't mind criticism as long as your not relating my story to something completely inappropriate. I've fixed the spelling and grammar the best I could, so if you see errors, please don't yell at me. Thank you for your time and enjoy the first chapter of Genepool.

???: Good Morning GenePool, I see you have finally come out of your coma

GenePool: Uhh.... what happened?

???: You have been in a coma for 3 years now.

GenePool: I feel weak, why are you calling me GenePool?

???: Hmm it seems that you have forgotten yourself.. don't worry we'll help you remember in time.

GenePool: nnng...Who are you?

Mitzin: My name code name is Mitzin, your officer in chief of the anti-renegade counter-terrorist network.

GenePool: renegade?

Mitzin: It seems your memory has taken a hard blow. No matter, the Terrorist group you speak of is the reason you were in your coma. You were one of a few survivors of the 3rd world war.

GenePool: World War 3? I missed it?

Mitzin: Be glad you did. After 3 long years the war has finally come down to this. We are now in the stage of a long cold war. The whole world took part in World War 3, hardly anything exists any more. The world you once knew has changed drastically. Canada has been whipped off the map, and nearly 2/3's of the US has been destroyed. But don't worry, we won the war is over, for the most part. It is now our job clean up the mess and finish off the renegades.

GenePool: what do I have to do with any of this?

Mitzin: You GenePool are a super soldier engineered by mankind to be the ultimate human being. Your intelligence, strength, sight have all been greatly enhanced. Within time we will unlock all of your potential again. Your body is weak right now, and it will be awhile before you can move. Please rest for now. We will talk later.

GenePool: no wait, I want to learn more. What is my real name?

Mitzin: You have one. GenePool is your name.

GenePool: That's ridiculous, I have to have a real name, don't you have a real name?

Mitzin: Sorry but it's not common practice to give away secrets any more. We work with code names to keep you safe. The less your enemy knows, the less harm they can do to you.

GenePool: How do I know if your my enemy or not?

Mitzin: Trust me, if I was your enemy, I would have killed you already.

GenePool: Hmm I have no choice but to trust you then. Where am I right now?

Mitzin: Your deep in the ocean, or what left of it.

GenePool: What? You can't be...

Mitzin: As I said, a lot of changes have happened in your time of absence. Your one of the lucky ones. The things that I have seen, the horrors I have witnessed, the way the world is right now, it seems impossible that it will ever be the same. The world has been destroyed... it's to late to do anything about the past, it's time to focus on the future. GenePool, get some rest, this information may come as a shock to you. It's best you try to not to think about it much. Have any requests?

GenePool: ...I...... I am unsure as to what I should ask for. I still have many questions I want answered.

Mitzin: There is plenty of time for the Q and A game. It's best you learn this stuff gradually.

GenePool: I see... in that case... can you have someone prepare me a hot meal?

Mitzin: I'll get you it right away. Welcome back GenePool.

I could barely lift my hand, not to mention speak. My head hurts a lot. I felt like I was being bruised severely every time I was try to move my body. I couldn't do anything for the first couple of weeks. I was dragged around in a wheel chair and moved around the base. It felt grungy the first couple of days, but I figured I had a lot less to worry about. I didn't speak to any one. Mitzin was always taking me around and show me the base and all the people. I didn't have much of any feelings towards what condition I was in. The stories he told me only saddened me even more.

The world was a different place, and everything I heard only saddened me more. I felt like I hadn't cried ever, and I wasn't going to start now. But it seemed that I felt like I didn't belong to this world, and something wasn't right about it. Why would everything be destroyed.. what started this World War, why was I a survivor, how come I haven't heard anything about being a super soldier. This temporary amnesia better not last.. for it won't be temporary it will be constant and forever, drowning my past, and guiding me into insecurity and maybe even insanity.

They aren't telling me much about the mission I will have next. For now it is all about getting back into step. I have been trying to walk around a bit more now. My muscles have been getting stronger as of late. I have to use a cane for now to get around. Unfortunately it will be a while before I am in fighting condition. The doctor says probably around 2-3 months of training and rehab will get me fixed and remembering my fighting techniques I learned. My mind isn't a complete blank for now. Hopefully most of my memory will eventually come back as time progresses.

I feel almost like dying because of the pain I am getting right now. All of my body is subjected to constant medication I'm filled with. Apparently I am being prescribed some medication that is helping to accelerate my mussel growth. It works with me, and help me get the extra energy I need. However with the progress of man kind, these aren't the typical steroids you give to basketball players or wrestlers, they are altered, just enough, that they won't completely screw up any of the cells in your body. The medication is called m.07 short for Moltoid. It was developed by a lead specialist in biochemical engineering, John Carmack, later died during WW3.

They recently have installed a device implanted into my neck. It's called a XR-p, used for transmitting information directly projecting images in my head. This is useful because it can give me blue prints on my location whereabouts, where my enemies are hiding, and any viable information that could help my mission status. Plus audio transmissions can be sent back and forth to the main base. The only problem is, once this thing is installed, they record everything I think and say. This a decent price to pay however. Another problem with the device is that it can only be used by a capable individual. Someone who thinks erratically will lose the transmission for a while until the single can be brought back. So if I get caught into enemy fire, I will lose communication with Central until I can control my thoughts again.

While this seems essentially impossible for oneself to control ones thought at all times another drug by the late John Carmack called TRu, makes it possible to enhance thinking patterns as a on and off switch. So essentially your body takes over with minimum thinking patterns in your brain which distorts the signal going to Central, but still it isn't reliable and the fluid usually doesn't last long. Plus when you take the drug, it usually takes 3 to 4 minutes to kick in while your mind is being all scrambled. It doesn't exactly seem like I would ever want to use TRu, but I might have to in later missions.

My body armor, known as the A-Ti2, is a full suit that is meant to act as a power electromagnetic field that can reflect enemy fire from ever hitting me. However new age technology has advanced over todays bulletsprey techniques. Weapons like Shaft-20, a powerful lightning ray which pierces through the armor and sends your body into a trance, can easily go past my electron magnetic armor. One of the disadvantages of the body armor is how uncomfortable it is. Plus the battery for the armor's electron magnetic field is still being tested, and isn't very stable. I'm afraid that the armor will electrocute me if something was to ever go wrong.

My hand gun that I have been given is called a April. April is a specialized silenced gun with ability to shoot at alarmingly fast rates, and still keeps a good cool when you fire rapidly. Since it's silenced, it makes a good suppresser to shoot with enemy targets, while the enemy try's to figure out where I am shooting from.

My rifle is an old model AK-127. Based on it's previous versions like the AK-47, it is a powerful rifle, yet is hard to control. It heats up quickly and has shot in sequence to be absolutely accurate. Every shot counts on the battle field, and there isn't exactly ammo laying around for me to pick up. I have to conserve it. Hopefully I will be able to sneak my way through missions so I don't have to use both my Hand Gun and my Rifle.

I'm equipped with 4 flash bang grenades, made to burn the enemies retina for a sequence of 15-20 seconds. More then enough time to keep the enemy off guard to the taking. I'm also given a powerful hand grenade which is practically like a small package of C4. It's capable of blowing holes through 15 ft of solid concrete, so when I throw it, I should probably look at getting out of there quickly.

The old age of brilliance and technology were innovation was to once help man kind, seems to have fallen back into the old principles of chaos and destruction. When I grasp each item and get the feel of what sort of terror I can oppose onto my foes, I gather new feelings of guilt, but I can't figure out why. For the most part, I think the overall issue is that I am taking the strength of my mind to newer extremes, or remembering them is only coming back to me, slowly.

It won't be long now... I am almost ready to get out in the real world. My body has almost been fully recovered and soon I will be able to take on tactical missions. I'm just not sure as to if I am capable of going through anything.
