Greetings one and all, NecropolisNick hear with my first battlereport. This report is nothing outrageous, just a short PvP on Nostalgia, featuring Liquid`Nazgul and Socke, both extremely good Protoss players.
The chosen map was Nostalgia and seeing as a lot of people have no idea what I’m talking about, here’s a diagram:
Nostalgia.jpg)
The game kicks off with Socke top right, yellow protoss and Nazgul’s teal protoss straight below him, bottom right.
Both players feel adventurous and build a pylon on 8(!), Socke building his directly next to his nexus, while Nazgul warps one in at his natural, near the bridges, either hoping to close the distance for an early zeal attack or to secure an expansion.
Socke then uses his probe to scout south, while Nazgul’s probe kind of just does a donut and sits there for a bit.
After a while (10 supply) that circle loving probe warps in a gateway, as does Socke, before it heads north at the sight of its yellow counterpart.
Nazgul warped in another gateway on 11, as does Socke.
Both players then begin to build up zeals and run probes around each other’s base, with Socke trying to harass Nazguls mineral line, but to no avail.
Nazgul, with a zeal and probe at Socke’s ramp, appears to try to harass Socke, yet his true intention to stall Socke is revealed when he does an early expansion to his nat.
Socke is quick to scout the expansion with his probe and decides the best measure would be zeal pressure/tech and builds an assimilator and more zeals accordingly.
With 7 glowing-bars-in-throat-warriors and a probe, he sets his plan into motion, sending them down to the teal base.
Upon reaching the edge of Nazgul’s nat, Socke begins setting up a pylon and shield battery and tries to cross one of the bridges.
Nazgul has been expecting this and as the zealots make it half way across the bridge, they are met by 5 opposing zealots, also backed by a shield battery.
A cute little dance ensues as each player tries to get their troops into the best position possible and the zealots begin to tear into each other.
Nazgul’s shield battery proves indispensable and Socke is quick to withdrawal his force for the loss of only one zealot.

By the time Socke’s shield battery is finished Nazgul has started to warp in some cannons and, with reinforcing zeals, Socke puts the pressure on again before Nazgul can gain a foot hold.
He comes in under the other bridge, and starts pummelling one of the warping cannons, Nazgul responds with his zeals.
Socke’s forces give up beating on the cannon and use the advantage of numbers to try and silence the defending army.
Seeing he is outnumbered, Nazgul pulls back to his shield battery and replenishes some errr…. shields.
Socke tries to finish off the cannon but retreats once again at the sight of onrushing zeals and probes, leaving it with 13hp =(.
Socke tries some more harassment but is chased off by goons and satisfies himself with camping out the front of Nazguls nat.
A short while passes before the action begins again.
Remember how Socke was going zeals pressure/tech and you are all probably thinking that Socke techs like a bitch because he hasn’t got anything to show for it?
Yeh, well he isn’t a bitch and he pulls out a reaver in a shuttle to prove it.
The reaver lands its sluggy ass on the bottom bridge and destroys the near dead photon cannon in one quick shot.
Unfortunately for Nazgul, this happens just as he is sending an army over his ridge in an attempt to counter Socke’s main.
The reaver takes care of another head ache by levelling Nazgul’s shield battery before being chased away by 4 goons.
Undeterred, Nazgul continues his covert manoeuvre.
Seeing the low troop count in Nazgul’s nat, Socke runs in with a mixture of zeals/goons and of course, the reaver.
They begin to lay smack down on the nat, only to be pincered from behind by Nazgul’s covert army and the army in his main.

Socke tries some fancy reaver work, but cannot face up to Nazgul’s weight of numbers and scampers back to his base, with very little left.
Nazgul follows after removing the pylon supporting Socke’s shield battery and, to his glee, finds a half warped nexus at Socke’s nat.
Unfortunately, he is unable to do much damage before being driven back by Socke’s new reaver/goon force.
Nazgul amasses some more troops and expands to his mineral only before having another stab at Socke’s expansion.
Socke, not expecting another attack so soon is caught with his pants down. Of course, by pants I mean shuttle carrying a reaver, and by down I mean up in his base picking up another reaver.
The spirit of sensei splinter was certainly with Nazgul as he uses focus fire to kill 2 goons, some probes and finish off the nexus, without losses.

Nazgul then does some containing at the nat of his own with a sizeable force of goons.
Knowing how much of a bitch containment can be, Socke is quick to break free with a measly 4 goons and 2 reavers in a shuttle, although losing both reavers, the shuttle and 2 goons in the process.
Nazgul quickly returns with what survived once he realized just how pathetic 2 dragoons are compared to four, killing Socke’s ‘army’, before once again being beaten back by more goons.
Socke tries to expand to his mineral only, but his probe is killed by a dragoon, so he makes the more logical choice of expanding once again to his nat, where better defences were available.
At present, Nazgul is running2 expansions + his main and is macroing his ass off, pumping zeals/goons.
Socke, on the other hand is only beginning his expansion, but has been making good use of reavers to slaughter Nazgul’s ground forces.
Socke moves out with his shuttle and goons, only to find Nazgul coming up the map towards him.
Socke’s army is larger and in much better positioning than Nazgul’s and chases him back towards his nat. However, splinter offers his guidance to Nazgul as, once he had drawn Socke down far enough, he engages Socke’s army, with reinforcements arriving from his main, nat and mineral only, while simultaneously hitting Socke’s main with the army he had waiting on Socke’s ridge.

The main battle goes in Socke’s favour, his reavers mopping the floor with Nazgul’s goons, but is quick to run home when he finds his nat filled with zeals and goons.
Nazgul gathers his forces and begins persuit.
His strike force is demolished, but not before destroying Sock’s oh so important nexus.
A few more skirmishes occur as Nazugl’s chasing army tries to cross the bridges to Socke’s nat, only to be pushed back and chased around the middle of the map by Socke and his pimp ass reavers.
During all the commotion, both players expanded, Nazgul to the bottom left main and Socke to the top mineral only.
The 2 armies stumble across each other again near the middle of the map and Socke gives chase, but, it is once again to prove his mistake as an even large mixture of goons and zeals runs up towards his empty nat.
Luckily, he caught a glimpse of the army with an observer, unluckily, Nazgul is fuxing kool and stalled the army with a small amount of zeals and goons, killing the shuttle full of reavers and safely camping his majority of goons on the other side of the bridge, making it damn hard for Socke to come back over.
Socke then feels the burn of Nazgul’s awesome macro as he is engaged by another ground force coming up from Nazgul’s nat.
Preoccupied, his is oblivious to the goons coming from out his nat, crushing him in a pincer manoeuvre once again.

Without and expansion and his reavers, Socke’s goons fall quick to Nazgul’s superior numbers and calls it a day.
Well, there is my first report for you to (hopefully) enjoy, sorry it was a bit short, all comments appreciated and thanks for reading =).
